The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) will oversee all legal matters, ensuring that the company’s operations comply with relevant laws and regulations. They will provide strategic legal advice to the executive team, manage legal risks, and handle contractual negotiations. The CLO will also develop internal policies, represent the company in legal proceedings, and maintain relationships with external legal partners.
Duties:
- Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives
- Provide expert legal advice to the executive team and other departments on a wide range of issues
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
- Ensure that all company contracts comply with legal requirements and best practices
- Monitor and ensure the company’s compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
- Develop and oversee the implementation of compliance programs and policies
- Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with the company’s operations and transactions
-Develop risk management strategies and provide training on risk prevention
-Manage and oversee any litigation or legal disputes involving the company
-Coordinate with external legal counsel as necessary
-Advise the board of directors and executive team on corporate governance matters
-Ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and practices
-Protect and manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio
-Handle trademark, patent, and copyright issues
-Provide legal support and due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions
-Draft and negotiate transaction documents and oversee the legal aspects of deal closings
-Monitor changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment
-Ensure the company’s practices are in line with current regulations
-Develop, implement, and enforce internal policies and procedures
-Provide training and guidance to employees on legal and compliance matters
-Mediate and resolve disputes internally and with external parties
-Develop and implement strategies for effective dispute resolution
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records and documentation
-Prepare and present reports on legal matters to the executive team and board of directors
-Serve as the primary legal liaison with external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and legal advisors
-Communicate legal issues and strategies effectively to non-legal stakeholders
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 5-10 years of legal experience, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house corporate legal experience.
- Extensive experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation, and compliance.
- Proven track record of managing legal matters for a company or large organization.
- Legal Expertise: Deep understanding of corporate, commercial, and employment law.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex legal issues.
- Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to achieve favorable outcomes in contract negotiations and dispute resolutions.
- Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
- Risk Management: Ability to identify and mitigate legal risks effectively.
- Integrity: Demonstrated ethical behavior and integrity in professional conduct.
- Decision-Making: Strong decision-making skills with the ability to provide sound legal advice under pressure.
- Leadership: Ability to lead and mentor junior legal staff and collaborate with other departments.

- Proficiency in using legal research tools and software.
- Familiarity with legal case management systems and document management software.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations affecting the company’s operations.
