Feeding Texas is the state association of food banks. Together with a network of 20 food banks we are the largest hunger-relief organization in Texas. Our mission is to lead a unified effort for a hunger-free Texas. Our network strives to ensure equitable access to nutritious food for all Texans, mitigate the root causes of hunger, improve community health and nutrition, strengthen crisis response, and engage all stakeholders in advocating for solutions to hunger. Position Summary
The Development Manager is a member of the Feeding Texas Communications team. Their primary responsibility is managing all fundraising and development activities. The Development Manager will work with the CEO and Communications Director to solicit philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations and implement individual, cause marketing, and planned giving campaigns to meet the annual and long-range fundraising goals of the organization. The Development Manager will also assist with administrative duties like data entry, grant tracking and grant reporting.
Essential Functions
Strategy and Planning
- Track overall fundraising progress against the organization’s annual and long-range fundraising goals.
- Work with the CEO and Communications Director to identify strategic funding and partnership opportunities.
- Work closely with the Communications Director to develop mission-aligned development strategies to attract support from individual donors, foundations, corporate donors, and major donors.
- Establish strong relationships and open communication with development staff at member food banks to foster transparency and to share and expand network funding opportunities. Draft Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) as needed for subgrant opportunities.
- Research funding sources and trends to help position the organization ahead of major funding changes, opportunities, or threats.
Development and Fundraising
- Develop and implement targeted individual, cause marketing, and seasonal giving campaigns.
- Record donations, track, and acknowledge donations through Every Action, Feeding Texas’ CRM.
- Track grant spending and pull grant reports through NetSuite, Feeding Texas’ financial management system.
- Work with the Communications Director and Content Manager to ensure consistent external messaging in donor communications and deliverables, including recognition of donors via digital media channels.
- Maintain regular communication with major donors and corporate partners to strengthen relationships. Follow up on unmet donation pledges.
- Project manage the development and submission of grant proposals and ongoing reporting throughout a grant’s lifecycle.
- Research and identify new grant opportunities, draft grant proposals as needed, support subject matter experts in proposal writing, and ensure all grant reporting deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program, including identifying opportunities to cultivate deeper ties and generate major gifts from new donors.
- Travel as needed for fundraising events, campaign launches, and staff events.
All staff are expected to develop an anti-racist knowledge base and awareness of racial equity and racial justice strategies, participate in regular anti-racist trainings, and contribute to the development and integration of a racial justice framework at Feeding Texas.
Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising, mission-driven marketing, development, or a related field
- Demonstrated track record in managing individual and corporate giving campaigns
- Demonstrated capacity to cultivate relationships with donors
- Strong ability to connect with people
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to juggle and adapt to multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Persuasive storyteller committed to truthfulness and authenticity
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and own projects in a virtual environment
- Experience using a CRM to record and track donations and engage donors; experience with Every Action is a plus
- Experience with NetSuite is a plus
- Experience with project management is a plus
- Ability to travel occasionally (up to 10% of the time)

COMPENSATION

LOCATION
This is a remote position with occasional travel to meet with team members, attend fundraising events, and participate in other in-person events. Feeding Texas provides the necessary technology, equipment, and other supports to ensure a comfortable and conducive home working environment for employees.
All staff must be residents of the State of Texas within 30 days of their start date.
