ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Develops and maintains the work schedule for clinic nursing staff to meet the needs of the clinic. Reviews time off requests and manages the nursing hours in the electronic payroll system.
· Collaborates the schedule with the physician’s call schedule and with the Clinic Director as needed.
· Investigates problems and makes recommendation to the Director for resolutions.
· Facilitates clinical department meetings. Collaborates with Clinic Director in preparing staff meeting agenda and conducts staff meetings in the absence of the Director. Responsible for clinical content and topics related to the nursing staff. Shares in responsibility for leading the department huddles.
· Coordinates and assists with the recruitment and team interview process.
· In conjunction with the Clinic Director, conducts quarterly rounding and annual evaluations of the clinic nursing team.
· Orients and trains new nursing staff according to clinic and hospital policies. Coordinates and participates in staff development activities.
· Monitors and maintains licensure certification requirements for nursing staff members.
· Utilizes clinical staff to evaluate and determine priority situations.
· Utilizes previous clinical experience and knowledge to anticipate patient care problems and solutions.
· Participates effectively as a lead-team member in the clinic being a resource and accountable to peers, providers and patients.
· Assumes responsibility for implementing QA and core-competency guidelines within the clinic, as required.
· Assists with implementing process changes or other duties as assigned to meet clinic goals.
· Provides leadership to the clinical staff and is a liaison between the clinical staff and the clinic director.
· Promotes teamwork throughout the clinic. Ensures problems, possible solutions, and final solutions are understood and accepted by nursing staff members.
· Promotes quality improvement efforts throughout the clinic, including chart audits and working directly with quality improvement projects. Maintains practice standards in regards to quality improvement.
· In conjunction with the Lab Director, monitors all clinical laboratory improvement amendments (CLIA) waived lab testing, including record keeping and compliance. Works with Lab Director to provide orientation for staff for all lab procedures.
· Works with the Lab Director to schedule and perform preventative maintenance to assure accuracy of all diagnostic machines, logging calibration and controls as mandated by CLIA.
· In conjunction with Lab Director, maintains quality control on lab equipment and tests. Accurately prepares tests that are being sent out.
· Assists in enforcing safety, OSHA, and blood borne pathogens regulations.
· Assists with performance standards and evaluation of clinical staff.
· Acts as the first point of contact for troubleshooting and maintenance of medical equipment. Coordinates ordering equipment with Clinic Director.
· Provides oversight of medical supply ordering and storage processes. Ensures medication inventory is maintained at a level appropriate and works with medical staff to keep this inventory up to date to meet patient needs. Ensures that nurses are maintaining stocked rooms in a clean and orderly fashion.
· Provides oversight of the vaccine inventory and storage plan, including the VFC program.
· Serves as clinical information technology resource in clinic. Logs service requests to the electronic medical record company as needed to ensure efficient workflows and maintenance of the electronic medical record.
· Performs duties and functions of office nurse, maintains competencies of such.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
· Attends meetings and participates on committees as required.
· Performs other related work as required.
· All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Current licensure as a licensed practical or registered nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
· Minimum of two years’ experience in a clinic setting preferred.
· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).
· Computer experience using Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook.
· Overall attention to detail, organizational ability, and ability to prioritize.
