Position Purpose: Reporting to the Dietary Manager, this position works closely with the person preparing the food to assure quality, nutritious meals are planned and prepared for patients, employees and visitors. This position will also operate the Point of Service cash register and total customers’ purchases, receive payment, and assist in directing customers.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Position Specific Performance Expectations:
- Prepare and serve high quality meals for patients, employees and visitors in a timely manner.
- Stock dining room.
- Deliver trays to floor and deliver trays to patient rooms.
- Run diet report and patient diet cards.
- Adhere to correct portion control.
- Follow and use diet manual.
- Clean lettuce and vegetables.
- Stock all departments.
- Record item and amount sent on tickets.
- Submit meal receipts.
- Submission of accurate time card.
- Follow Policy and Procedures regarding recording temperature. Take and record temperature.
- Works safely/promotes safe work environment.
- Politely talk to patients and find out likes and dislikes.
- Answer phones professionally.
- Take breaks per policy.
- Attend mandatory meetings.
- Wash, sort, and put away dishes per departmental policy.
- Clean and organize all of the kitchen and pantry walk-ins.
- Empty trash containers.
- Sweep and/or mop floor.
- Wrap silverware.
- Put away supplies.
- Rotate stock.
- Refill condiment bottles.
- Sanitize bottle and shakers daily.
- Check expiration dates.
- Receive payment by proximity card, cash, check, or credit/debit cards.
- Answer customers’ questions, and provide information in a friendly manner.
- Strive to ensue continual compliance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations.
- Employee participates in mandatory in-services.
- Can identify and access system to report abuse of employees and/or patients.
- Adhere to policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and risk management.
- Communicate observations/concerns to Dietary Manager during regular meetings.
- Determine special dietary requirements of late admissions and assure the patient’s nutritional needs are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions)
- Must be able to legally work in the United States
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Unencumbered License/Certification (if applicable)
Experience:
- Knowledge of proper sanitation procedures preferred.
- Prior institutional cooking experience preferred.
- Previous cashiering or retail sales procedures preferred.
Position Classification: Non-exempt
Compensation Range: $18.03 to $22.19
