JOB TITLE: Machinist
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, sets up and operates manually controlled machine tools in skilled precision in the repair of rotating machinery, machine parts, tools and equipment.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
· Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner
· Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings and detailed instructions
· Uses gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
· Uses precision machine tools, such as horizontal boring mill, engine lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, etc.
- Operates air tools, power tools, hydraulic press, forklifts, overhead cranes, and sandblast unit
· Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal, plastic and composite material
· Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines
· Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling
· Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production
· Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
- Performs preventative maintenance on machine tools, sandblast unit, air compressor and power tools
- Performs record keeping and maintains files on preventative maintenance work performed
- Assists with equipment dismantling and assembly when needed
- Assists with periodic safety inspections; identifies and corrects safety hazards
- Responds to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis and works outside normal working hours as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required
· Complies with all safety procedures, quality policies, specifications and instructions
Knowledge of:
– Practices, procedures, tools and materials used in the repair of centrifugal pumps as used in the Oil & Gas, Pipeline, Power and Water Industries
– Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to the repair of centrifugal pumps
- To perform this job satisfactorily, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have a general knowledge of 1) estimating time and materials for machine jobs, 2) metals and the quality and machinability and uses of metals, alloys and other materials, 3) machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance, 4) design techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans and drawings.
Ability to:
- Perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
- Read and follow work orders and instructions
- Read and interpret plans/drawings, specifications, repair manuals and inspection findings
- Use a variety of test instruments, power/air/hydraulic tools and hand tools
- Respond quickly to critical situations, and carry out work assignments as instructed
- Maintain accurate records
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Five (5) years experience in the repair and maintenance of rotating machinery.
PHYSICAL TASK & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The incumbent must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job and have mobility, balance, coordination, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Work involves exposure to potential physical harm, dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals, and potentially infectious disease. There is a frequent need to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb and balance, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other physical activities during the course of the workday. Must utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear including but not limited to hard hats, respirators and/or hearing protective devices. Majority of the work is performed indoors, with some outdoor assignments that will expose one to wind, rain, sun, and varying temperatures.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
