Position Overview: The Heavy Fabrication Shop Planner will play a critical role in our manufacturing process, ensuring efficient production planning and coordination. This position requires extensive experience in a heavy fabrication environment, a thorough knowledge of metal cutting, forming, fitting, and welding techniques, and strong skills in reading and interpreting blueprints and bills of material.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop efficient plans for metal cutting, forming, fitting, and welding processes.
- Read and interpret blueprints and bills of material.
- Create logical and efficient plans, kitting both material and plan per the determined shop schedule.
- Monitor and report on the production's progress.
- Coordinate work with other departments.
- Assist the Shop Manager in leading the manufacturing process with innovative approaches.
- Ensure efficient use of machines, equipment, tooling, consumables, and software.
- Aid in defining customer requirements.
- Responsibility for ordering and purchasing materials needed for production.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a heavy fabrication environment.
- Strong knowledge of metal cutting, forming, fitting, and welding techniques.
- Above-average skills in reading and interpreting blueprints and bills of material.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Project.
- Experience with E2/Job Boss ERP shop system software or equivalent.
- Experience with ProNest/CAD or equivalent drafting/nesting software.
- Established business relationships with suppliers and service providers in the Hampton Roads area are a plus.
- Must be a self-starter capable of assisting the Shop Manager.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
