Job Title: Medical Receptionist

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective:
Part-time position. No weekend hours. The position of Medical Receptionist requires the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a pleasant demeanor and providing quality customer service. Must be detailed oriented and able to work with multiple providers. Position includes: greeting and registering patients, collecting copays and money owed on account, triaging calls, obtaining medical records from other facilities and offices for upcoming appointments, scanning information into patient charts, scheduling appointments, assisting with clerical duties, prepping day sheet and encounter forms for the next day of office hours, verifying insurance information with Navinet and Availity, interacting with drug reps and scheduling luncheons, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:

- Answer multi-line phones and direct the caller to the appropriate party, schedule an appointment, or send message to the provider.
- Greet patients upon arrival, sign them in, obtain all necessary information, and update data in the medical chart.
- Check patients out following their appointments.
- Provide patients with intake and new patient forms as well as copies of our office policies and legally required documents.
- Process payments from patients for co-pays, uninsured visits, and collect money owed on account.
- Schedule appointments for patients with office providers.
- Obtaining medical records from other facilities and offices for upcoming appointments.
- Interact with drug reps and schedule luncheon meetings for the providers.
- Prep encounter forms and day sheet for the following day. Verify insurance information through Navinet and Availity.
- Provide patients with support and guidance as needed.
- Scanning records into the patient’s chart.
- Maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling patient’s medical records and information.
- Follow and adhere to HIPPA regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1 year experience as a medical receptionist
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 1 year experience in a medical practice environment
- Knowledge of insurances and insurance portals
- Knowledge of e Clinical Works EMR
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as patient charts, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and patient notes when requested. Ability to speak effectively and clearly to patients and their family members.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; fax machines and internet software. Must be trained and able to use ECW for medical records.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a medical office environment with ringing phones, people moving around, exam rooms, and medical equipment. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to medical setting. Requires working under stress in emergency situations and irregular hours.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
