Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Project Accountant located in Lemont, IL. The Project Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day financial and accounting tasks related to construction projects. This includes reviewing and analyzing project financial data, preparing invoices, managing project budgets, tracking costs and expenses, and providing financial reports to project teams Controller
Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate with Project Managers (PMs) and Project Engineers (PE's), regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.
- Prepare final invoice package containing pencil draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup for approval.
- Send final invoices and waivers to the customer & follow up on client approval / payment.
- Assess and pursue opportunities for maximization of client billing; communicate with the Controller, as to your observations and actions taken.
- Collaborate with Project Manager to maximize monthly billing amounts.
- Maintain the billing folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents, including pay applications, waivers, certified payroll reports, vendor invoices, etc. in accordance with standard procedures.
- Set up new projects, make transfers of employee billable hours and/or expenses, and close jobs including review & investigation of open commitments.
- Prepare time and material (T&M) billings with all related supporting documentation.
- Manage/prepare subcontract waivers process.
- Manage certified payroll process on jobs where required.
- Recommend and implement agreed process improvements to the billing cycle.
- Prepare special project analyses for the PMs and others.
- Participate in monthly and quarterly project review meetings with Controller, Director of Operations, and Group Leaders.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting and financial analysis skills, including
- Experience in construction accounting or project accounting
- Proficiency in using various accounting softwares ex: Sage, Procore, Coupa, Textura ect...
- Knowledge of construction project management and industry best practices
- Attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret financial data accurately
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience with AIA billings in a construction environment preferred
