Job Summary:
PODER’s Human Resource Specialist will be a self-starter as well as an effective team player, motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the organization and the members which PODER serves in our community. This position provides support to the finance and management team through a variety of tasks related to HR and accounting functions, ensuring efficiency and accuracy of financial reports, and compliance with grantor regulations. The Human Resource Specialist will have a high level of computer proficiency and will be familiar with not-for-profit organizational culture and settings.
This is a full-time salaried position and reports to PODER’s Finance and Data Manager.
Duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the leadership team with recruitment: job posting, interview scheduling, benefits enrollment, and onboarding of new staff
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records (in electronic or physical format) related to the recruitment process, payroll, PTO, benefits, personal contact information, job descriptions, and organizational structure
- Serve as main point-of-contact for PODER’s PEO
- Administer PODER's LinkedIn Learning portal, ensure it is up-to-date and aligns with the organization's development goals.
- Review, approve, and submit the semi-monthly payroll to the PEO
- Process Simple IRA retirement contributions
- Track payroll and expenses in PODER’s financial system by function, activity, and grant
- Maintain knowledge of current and pending labor rules and regulations enacted by city, state, and federal agencies
- Serve as point of contact to PODER staff to answer questions related to payroll matters, tax issues, benefit plans, and other employment matters
- Support the finance team during scheduled annual audits which includes verifying employee records, benefits, compliance, 990 tax return filings, year-end 1099 distribution, and financial reporting periods
- Ensure federal, state, city, and private grantors’ compliance related to HR operations
- Provide other support to management, as requested

Education and Experience:
- Baccalaureate degree in HR/accounting focus preferred, or Associate degree with relevant experience
- Understand financial reporting and general ledger structure
- Prior experience in a not-for-profit setting preferred
- High level of computer literacy and familiarity with project management tools
Physical Requirements:
· The Human Resources and Financial Specialist position is clerical and primarily a sedentary role and may require sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
