POSITION OVERVIEW
Psych Crisis () is a startup nonprofit established in 2022 to transform how the mental health crisis system works–to make it more humane, trustworthy and effective at helping people through the worst moments of their lives. In partnership with Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health we are launching Sutter-Yuba Mobile Crisis Response (SY-MCR), a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year mobile crisis program to serve all people in Sutter and Yuba counties. Our program is led by alumni from the renowned CAHOOTS nonviolent response program in Eugene, Oregon and our service design is modeled after the successful CAHOOTS program.
The mobile crisis response team responds to a wide range of mental-health-related emergency calls, including requests for conflict resolution, welfare checks, substance abuse crises, suicide threats, and homelessness-related crises. We respond to people of all ages with the aim of treating each person we meet with respect and compassion, finding the response most appropriate to the specific situation at hand and avoiding unnecessary psychiatric or justice-related incarceration.
The Sutter-Yuba MCR Clinical Director works in partnership with the Program Director, with collaborative oversight from Psych Crisis’s Executive Director and support from Psych Crisis’s operations team to manage the day-to-day operations of the MCR program. This includes:
- Acting as the main supervisor for 10 FTE Mental Health Crisis Intervention Specialists, including licensed peer specialists; mentoring, clinical supervision, feedback and evaluation
- Leading refresher training and cross-training in mental health crisis response and de-escalation, in collaboration with our Training Director
- Collaborating on continual measurement, evaluation (qualitative and quantitative) and improvement of the service as it enters its first year of operation, including participating in weekly executive review meetings
- Other duties required to support the establishment of the service, including participating in hiring, collaboration with stakeholders and building awareness of the service
- Representing the program at regular meetings with agency stakeholders
This position will require 25 hours a week of operations and management work per week, six to fifteen flexible hours as a MCR team member, responding to Crisis Intervention calls, and rotating on-call duties for 5150 authorization.
