Layde & Parra SC is seeking a full-time litigation paralegal to join our immigration law firm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We represent immigrant clients through family-based applications, deportation defense, asylum and humanitarian claims, and much more.
Responsibilities:
Within the First 30 Days, this position will:
- Work with Attorneys in the litigation department at Layde & Parra SC
- Back up other legal and administrative workers with their roles, including answering phone and discussing basic legal questions, as well as scanning and filing Within the First 60 Days, this position will:
- Onboard clients currently facing removal (deportation) proceedings
- Assist Attorneys with gathering evidence and information for cases
- Communicate with clients to answer questions, facilitate evidence gathering and keep them informed on the status of their process
- Complete official record requests for office (criminal documents, medical records, legal records, etc.)
- Complete FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests to obtain client documents from immigration agencies
- Complete all communications with courts regarding any administrative issues, including phone calls, e-mails, and in person visits
- Review removal cases monthly to confirm court dates and check ins and keep clients and attorneys informed of changes
- Managing and tracking cases in Case Management Software and managing client documents and data in Microsoft Office Suite
- Accurately tracking billable hours worked
- Provide occasional Spanish language interpretation at immigration interviews
- Draft basic court motions and documents under Associate Attorney supervision
Within the First 60 Days, this position will:
- Draft basic court motions and documents under Associate Attorney supervision
- Conduct and organize country conditions research to support removal cases
Within the First 90 Days, this position will:
- Set and meet hourly billing targets
Qualifications:
- Bilingual Fluency in English/Spanish required
- Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate (required)
- 1-3 years of related experience
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
- Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
- Proficient computer/technology competency
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Capability to work in a team
Hours: Full time (40+ hours/week) in person. Our office is open Monday - Thursday from 8 AM - 6 PM.
Salary: Salary starts at $38,500 per year
