The 150 room Hyatt Place Houston Downtown is looking for an Assistant General Manager to work closely with the General Manager to help manage the entire hotel’s operation. Successful candidates lead and motivate the team as a coach and trainer in all realms of the operation including front desk, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and food & beverage. The AGM will manage the hotel and team by walking the property, providing constructive feedback, and always making themselves available. The AGM must lead by example, provide a superior level of service, and be a dynamic leader. The primary responsibilities for this position will be focused on routine operational tasks and supervising others in their operational assignments to ensure hotel consistency in quality of standards, maximizing profits, developing, and retaining employees and exceeding guest expectations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manage cost controls and labor across departments to stay within budgeted parameters
· Supervision of all departments of the hotel
· Daily room inspections
· Ensure the highest standards of service exist for our guests
· Participate in the selection/hiring of associates
· Maintain an open-door policy to address any team member issues
· Provide departmental training, including safety training to the team
· Handle guest issues, complaints, and requests and pro-actively resolves them in a manner satisfactory to both the guest and the hotel.
· Answers queries regarding hotel services; registration of guests; shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions. Coordinates with other departments to fulfill guest special requests.
· Able to operate front desk computer system that checks guests in, posts charges, makes-confirms-cancels reservations, runs audits, etc. Must be able to work on windows-based system.
· Prepare, set up, stock, take down, clean, and provide quality food and beverage products/services consistently for all guests by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards. Be familiar and knowledgeable with the operation of the POS-Point of Sale system.
· Assist and serve guests with beverage/bar items and food orders in a friendly professional and timely manner. Use suggestive selling techniques. Maintain a clean and organized environment for guests by clearing tables during service.
· Provide complete operational and staff support in the absence of the General Manager, and any other duties assigned by General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· An instantly recognizable and contagious passion for hospitality. Previous hotel and customer service experience required.
· Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
· Command of the English language; Spanish language a bonus
· Experience/knowledge working with computers. Knowledge of Hyatt Systems is a plus.
· Have a thorough knowledge of safety and emergency procedures and be able to execute them when necessary.
· Previous hotel food & beverage experience is required. Knowledge of purchasing, inventory and cost controls, budgeting, staffing, food preparation, and bartending.
· Must be able to work with and secure sensitive and/or confidential material and information.
· Must be self-motivated and able to work with little or no supervision, responding to and handling unfamiliar situations with little supervisory guidance.
· Strong independent judgment and decision-making skills are required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures, interpret precedents, and adopt standard methods or practices to meet variations in facts and/or conditions.
· Must work well under pressure and remain calm during stressful situations. Must possess solid organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously prioritize multiple priorities and/or projects in a fast-paced environment.
· Show proof of TABC and Food Handlers certification or be willing/able to become certified in both.
· Must be able to perform essential Job Duties/Functions not limited to: Standing and walking for extended periods of time, sitting, bending, stretching, and lifting of items 10 pounds or more.
· Must adhere and follow all State and OSHA requirements including equipment and chemical handling safety and storage to ensure the overall safety of others.
· Must have a valid driver’s license
· Ability to Multi-task and handle a busy hotel environment
· This position will require working mornings, evenings, and weekends. Must be able to work on Saturday and Sundays. Will require the ability to work outside of regularly scheduled hours. Schedules may vary based on business needs.
