Job Summary:
The Administrative Assistant for Soil & Water is essential in supporting the department through clerical duties, environmental education outreach, and assisting in drainage planning. This role significantly impacts the maintenance of drainage systems throughout the county, enabling the Supervisor and County Manager to make informed decisions and effectively budget for the county's soil and water needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clerical Duties:
- Collecting and filing Cost Share Applications
- Researching environmental laws and regulations
- Document filing and retention
- Recording minutes and attending meetings
- Communicating with external sources
- Environmental Education:
- Conducting outreach to schools and parents about conservation opportunities
- Attending trainings, seminars, and events
- Serving on educational committees
- Coordinating county field days
- Additional Duties:
- Attending multiple trainings, which may require up to a week away from home
- Assisting in county drainage planning
- Training in Cost Share Program BMPs (Best Management Practices)
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: No experience required.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft 365, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
- License/Certifications: Valid NC Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: Prior experience in Conservation and/or Local Government
- Skills: Operation of Google Earth/Arc GIS, Interests in Soil & Water Conservation, and the ability to work with the public efficiently and effectively.

Pay: $29,673.00 - $36,100.00 per year
