Job Summary:
The Mechatronics Engineer will be involved in the R&D of complex electromechanical devices. This position is a member of a small and capable team that has made significant advances in fundamental science and is now focused on the commercialization of the technology. This role will be critical in supporting scientific R&D efforts and product development. The Mechatronics Engineer is capable of running complex projects and will be able to work effectively with a range of engineering and science disciplines. This position requires the ability to solve challenging engineering problems by being able to prototype and test new hardware designs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for developing hardware concepts into functional prototypes.
2. Plan and perform tests to prove the feasibility of electromechanical systems.
3. Able to conceptualize new designs while having sound engineering decision-making to determine the best path forward.
4. Work with senior engineers and scientists to facilitate the R&D process.
5. Thermal and fluid simulation.
6. Minor electronic prototyping.
Day-to-Day Tasks :
1. Mechanical design (45%)
2. Prototyping - (3d printing, basic machining, sending parts to fabricators, breadboard circuit design) (15%)
3. Assemble and test electromechanical prototypes. (10%)
4. Sensor analysis and characterization. (10%)
5. Component selection and testing. (10%)
6. Support scientist hardware needs during experimental setups. (10%)
7. All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or similar engineering disciplines.
2. CAD experience (SolidWorks, Fusion360, or similar).
3. Prototyping experience in both traditional methods and 3d printing.
4. Understanding of basic electrical schematics for mechatronic applications.
Preferred:
1. 3+ years of hardware design experience, medical device experience, and chemistry lab experience.
2. Experience with simulation software.
3. PCB design and firmware development
4. Experience with Arduino and/or other microcontrollers
