Job Summary:
We are currently seeking an entry-level Activities Coordinator for our Day Programs. The Activities Coordinator is responsible for the research, development, scheduling, and implementation of a wide array of program activities designed to meet the needs of participants. Activities may be community or center based. The Activities Supervisor ensures that activities are meaningful, engaging on multiple levels, implementable, and meet all State, Waiver Medicaid, and The Arc of Essex County requirements.
The ideal candidate for this role is passionate, creative, and hands-on.
Some flexible scheduling is required for this position. Occasional evenings and weekends will be scheduled, and hours during the week adjusted to compensate.
This is an in-person position at our Day Program locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Researches community based and center-based activities that meet the needs, interests, and goals/objectives identified by participants
- Develops activity structure to meet the varying and wide array of participant needs ensuring smooth integration into the regular program schedule
- Obtains participant input for activity development
- Ensures that all activities are creative, innovative, meaningful, and align with the interests of participants.
- Develops curriculum for successful placement
- Develops relationships with community entities for the provision of activities
- Identifies supplies needed to prepare activities and ensure availability prior to activity
- Trains staff on activity implementation
- Provides supervision of activity functions
- Troubleshoots potential issues to ensure successful activity and modifies activities accordingly
- Supervises assigned staff
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings; participate actively to ensure a team approach
- Acts as a role model and provides support to non-supervisory staff by providing training, transportation, and assistance for each individual to enable her/him to complete daily routines in a safe, healthy, productive and dignified manner.
- Maintains a professional relationship with families, support coordinators, case managers, guardians, community organizations, contract providers, and other interested persons
- When assigned, assumes the responsibilities of the Program Manager for the program assigned when the Manager is absent under the supervision of the Assistant Director.

Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Education / Work Experience / Skills:
- BA or BS in Special Education, Recreation Management, or Psychology preferred
- At least 1 year of management or leadership experience with individuals with developmental disabilities
- At least 2 years of experience in program development for the IDD population
