Your Role
The wave of Large Language Models and Generative AI has burst onto the scene, requiring companies to quickly adapt to harnessing the power of these new technologies, while maintaining a secure and compliant environment and simultaneously continue using more traditional AI / machine learning techniques.
The enterprise-wide Data & Analytics team at Blue Shield of California is seeking to hire an AI Program & Product Manager, Principal. This role reports to the Director of Advanced Analytics but has very close interactions with the VP of Data & Analytics (D&A) and is expected to work team-wide, IT-wide, and enterprise-wide as a critical part of Blue Shield of California’s data-driven and mission-driven journey of transforming the world of healthcare. This role coordinates and provides governance across all AI use cases at Blue Shield of California, partnering with business leaders, technology leaders, compliance, legal, and security. In this role, you will be responsible for driving and maintaining guiding principles, overall oversight, and steering prioritization of initiatives in service of delivering against corporate objectives.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Define: Continually refine stage-gate governance process to ensure visibility and appropriate accountability for all AI-driven projects; Keep in lockstep with compliance, legal, privacy, and security to define and understand guardrails and expand boundaries where appropriate; Understand technology stack and capabilities of platform partners / vendor landscape in this rapidly changing area
- Filter: Guide / shape the portfolio of enterprise AI use cases to align with corporate objectives and strategies; ensuring business support and willingness to adopt; Assist with ROI calculations / business cases; Play point person within D&A team for interface with legal, compliance, and security and help to resolve any outstanding concerns
- Track: Understand the status of all active use cases from inception to execution; Partner to scope pilots, define success criteria, ensuring funding; Understand spend against any project-related budgets; Identify and surface / summarize execution risks
- Communicate: Partner to synthesize status of use cases and results achieved and present to executives; Articulate business case / business value together with business stakeholders; Explain AI to new-to-AI audiences
- Scale: Partner to help drive the organizational change management needed to infuse AI into operational processes
- Package: Product-manage AI solutions and package into potentially salable solutions to other payer plans; includes pricing, go-to-market approaches, etc. Partner with key contacts at large platform providers like Salesforce, Microsoft, etc.
- Learn: Digest latest trends in AI, including keeping up with evolving state, federal, and local regulations / guardrails / guidance; collaborate with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association; Identify / surface opportunities for improvement and innovation in current approaches
QUALIFICATIONS
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Requires 10-12 years of experience in Product Management, Management Consulting, Technology Strategy or Entrepreneurship, ideally with program or product management, including go-to-market approaches
- Requires a BA/BS in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Health, or Information Technology, or related, with exposure and familiarity of technical concepts; a graduate degree (e.g. MBA) is highly desirable
- Experienced with product development/ ownership and guiding the product lifecycle from requirements to prototyping and impact measurement
- Strong knowledge and/or incredible thirst and velocity to learn AI concepts, methods, tools, and applications from a business lens; a constant learner
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; able to synthesize complex concepts and communicate across multiple functions and levels in the organization
- Able to collaborate and work cross-functionally in disparate areas ranging from business functions to security, legal, and privacy
- Facile with program/project management; works quickly, iteratively, and communicates frequently
- Experienced with numerous communication, collaboration, and visualization tools like Slack, Jira, Tableau, MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.
- Possesses strong business and financial acumen and can speak in terms of business value
- Extremely organized and detail oriented; must take pride in end products
- A resilient and facile problem-solver that can navigate uncharted waters
- Proactive by nature; seeks and sees opportunities for improvement and acts quickly in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Excellent influence and engagement skills in building alignment and accountability without formal ownership or authority over resources

Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $ 145970.00 to $ 218900.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Physical Requirements:
Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Due to the current public health emergency in California, Blue Shield employees are almost all working remotely. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
