Nurse Aide Assistant Professor
This is a faculty position with chair duties. This position provides leadership to the Nurse Aide program and is responsible for program planning, implementation, coordination, supervision and related program management activities. Instructional responsibilities include teaching didactic, lab, and internship courses. The Nurse Aide Assistant Professor must command strong teaching skills, creating and modeling a quality-learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs and effectively structure classes and curriculum to support program and course outcomes. Clinical responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating the clinical assignments and partner functions, working with the clinical sites for placement, supervisory, and proctoring requirements.
This position is a full-time, 9-month faculty position in the Center for Health and Natural Sciences. Faculty have opportunities to teach courses and perform additional duties during the summer semester for additional compensation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Nurse Aide Assistant Professor is primarily responsible for classroom instruction. This includes planning for classroom, laboratory and clinical learning experiences; teaching assigned didactic, lab, and internship courses; maintaining office hours; and utilizing a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes (e.g., Banner, D2L, grade books, etc.). This position develops and evaluates curriculum per community needs and regulatory requirements, and recommends changes as appropriate; develops annual assessment reports for program student learning outcomes; and implements student assessment and retention strategies and creates department reports. The Nurse Aide Assistant Professor also maintains program quality to ensure high pass rates in the Nurse Aide Certification Exam. This individual maintains inventory of supplies and equipment in the Nurse Aide lab, and contracts with equipment service providers.
In addition to teaching, this position is responsible for program administration as the faculty chair. This Responsibilities includes, establishing and maintaining clinical sites for the Nurse Aide program; overseeing and coordinating the clinical assignments and partner functions, working with the clinical sites for placement, supervisory, and proctoring requirements; managing program budgets; and coordinating site visits, annual reports, and ensuring compliance with rules, regulations, and statues set forth by the State Board of Nursing. This position develops class schedules for the Nurse Aide cohorts; offers program orientation sessions and provides program advising; and oversees the application process and student selection. The Nurse Aide Assistant Professor communicates relevant program information to both internal and external stakeholders, and works with educational and industry partners to identify opportunities for expanding the program.
The Nurse Aide Assistant Professor schedules and conducts regular Nursing Programs Advisory Board and Departmental meetings; participates in faculty meetings, chair meetings, chair council, center meetings, and other inter-collegiate committees as necessary. This position recruits, hires and supervises instructors in the program; and mentors instructors in regards to teaching skills, college policies, student issues, and clinical affiliate concerns.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure/Certification: Active unencumbered professional nursing license or an active unencumbered practical nursing license.
Experience: Two (2) years of nursing experience (one (4000 hours of Professional Nursing clinical experience within 5 years) with at least one year in long-term care facility caring for the elderly and/or the chronically ill of any age.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from varied backgrounds and situations, and is sensitive to individual differences.
- Teaching experience including skills-based testing and assessment
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, D2L, and other computer software as necessary.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing or higher from a nationally accredited institution.
Experience:
- Experience with classroom instruction and curriculum development.
- Experience working with clinical sites in the health science field.
- Experience with data collection and reporting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and academic management.
