Work Schedule: 190 Days - 12 Months - August Nurse
Salary Range 2: $31,839.50 - $47,760.00

To identify and assess health concerns and ascertain who and how the care for the student is to be done in the academic settings in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), which includes compliance with Board of Nursing, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) regulations, Colorado Department of Education (CDE) requirements and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) rules. The nurse enhances and impacts student learning by modifying or removing health related barriers.

Ensure mandated school health services in the educational environment, by identifying student health needs, interpreting health data, serving as the health expert, developing and implementing health care plans either self or through delegation to unlicensed personnel, and implementing screening programs and follow-up. Assist with psychiatric and behavioral health needs as well as substance abuse prevention and counseling when needed.

Assesses the health of the school community/communities in their assignment by surveying health issue trends, monitoring accident and incident reports, gather surveillance and screening and interpret for needed change, assess risk and protective factors and communicate health and wellness issues to the school and community/communities.

Advocate for the physical and emotional safety in the school environment by education and initiating prevention programs while intervening as needed.

Protect against environmental hazards by recommending environmental safety and fostering policy development that is appropriate.

Contain spread of disease by monitoring immunizations, utilizing and educating on disease control methods, educating on infectious and nuisance diseases and assisting in policy development and implementation.

Respond to disasters and assist communities in recovery.

Ensure quality of school health services and make health services accessible to students and families by aligning with national, and state school nursing standards and collecting data and submitting data as requested and reevaluate as needed.

Collaborate and coordinate with students, families, community health services and staff by serving as a liaison and providing health related case management services.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required:

Bachelor’s Degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements: Nursing

Minimum of one year experience in: Pediatric nursing, community or public health nursing or school nursing

Active Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Currently hold a CDE Special Skills Provider license or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement in: School Nurse 0-21
-
Current CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally recognized program of instruction.
Preferred:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Able to care for and advocate for special needs students.
Excellent interpersonal and outreach skills.
Good ability to teach various audiences.
Salary Range 2: $63,679 - $95,520 (Based on 1.0 FTE)
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
- Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
