Summary/Objective
The Nurse Practitioner provides direct client care, including the reporting of observed changes in mental status and/or physical condition, responds to client emergencies and ensures overall high standards for client care at our North Austin and all Nova facilities.
Essential Functions
Coordinates with attending physicians to ensure all admission orders are addressed and appropriate ancillary assessments and services are provided.
Completes documentation timely and accurately, including, transcription of orders, medication logs, discharge paperwork, and status of patient treatment plans.
Properly review and maintain documentation and management of medications.
Attendance and participation in terms of treatment planning conferences and professional staff meetings
Orientation and training of staff regarding pharmaceutical and physical health services, infection control, and CPR & First Aid instruction.
Provide coverage and care to all Nova clients at Nova various locations in a timely manner and to a level that meets all State (DSHS) and Joint Commission Accreditation requirements and regulations.
Provide initial and follow up medical evaluations for clients, while also evaluating the level of care and medical appropriateness for discharges.
Utilize all medical histories, lab reports/tests, physical and mental examinations when evaluating clients and making referral to Specialists.
Provide medication checks, med evaluations, and medication management for all clients while prescribing medication as needed.
Work Environment
This job operates in a nursing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk and hear. This position requires long periods of standing, periodic sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. This position requires lifting and/or moving items up to 10 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week in person position and hours of work are scheduled by the COO. The facilities are open 7 days a week/24 hour a day/365 day a year and your schedule may include working weekends and holidays.
Travel
Nova Recovery Center operates and cares for clients 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day at the Residential locations. This position is crucial to the care of Nova’s clients. As such, you may be required to travel to other Nova locations in the State of Texas. Refusal to travel to other Nova locations may be subject to disciplinary measures up to and including termination.
Required Education and Experience
- Current and valid state license as Nurse Practitioner.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or graduate of an NLN accredited school of professional nursing.
- License by TX State Board of Nurse Examiners to practice professional nursing.
- Approved by TX State Board of Nurse Examiners as a Nurse Practitioner.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with patients in a mental health or psychiatric environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with all physicians and staff.
- A thorough understanding of documentation and the ability to complete all documentation accurately and timely.
- Two years' work experience in the field of Chemical Dependency is preferred.
General Qualifications
Must have excellent customer service skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills, and the ability to work with other departments within the Nova Recovery LLC programs. Ability to be a self-starter with minimal supervision.
