How would you like to have the best job in the world? Do you enjoy meeting new people and have a delightful disposition? We do, too! In fact, that is what this job is all about. Would you like to earn a good living while making a difference in Myrtle Beach, SC? Are you a person with a passion for service to your community? If so, we’d like to meet you!
Block by Block provides cleaning, safety, social outreach for the street residents, transit ambassadors, park ambassadors...in a nutshell, we provide services for anything your downtown needs to be a more desirable destination. We are seeking energetic, friendly people to help us at our Ambassador Program in Myrtle Beach, SC. Who is an Ambassador? It’s someone who’s willing to talk to people, to take ownership in their city and do ‘whatever it takes’ with a friendly smile to make sure visitors are safe and feel welcome and secure. Patrolling, reporting, greeting and giving directions to visitors and doing everything with a smile and a great attitude sets our Ambassadors apart.
Specific daily responsibilities of the “Ambassador” involve the following:
· Manual litter collection – Circulate through assigned work zone with a rolling can containing supplies and tools, removing litter and debris on sidewalks, street gutters, alleys and empty lots around the districts, often using “grabbers” to pick up abandoned items left on the street
· Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes and other public infrastructure. We look high and low for anything in eyesight that needs to be removed. Scraping stickers, taking down flyers, picking up leaves and trash, bagging debris and emptying garbage cans…attention to detail is a must.
· Pulling isolated weeds from cracks in sidewalks, tree wells, around buildings and from flowerbeds
· Damp wipe and straighten horizontal surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes and other infrastructure. This is vital. We have cleaned and sanitized touchpoints, and we pretty much clean everything that doesn't move.
· Observe and report – while on patrol, be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to articulate and report an accurate description of persons, vehicles and other similar identifiers.
· Hospitality and customer service – While on patrol, you’ll actively acknowledge pedestrians with a friendly greeting or identify visitors in order to provide directions, city information or recommendations. Actively engaging with others on the street requires a friendly and energetic disposition.
- Serving as a deterrent – Patrol on foot and bike to circulate through assigned zone to deter or discourage unwanted activity or behavior through uniformed visible presence
· Address unwanted activities – Ambassadors will firmly and courteously request compliance to persons violating low-level quality of life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive or harassing behavior, etc.
· Reporting – Must be able to provide written reports of broken infrastructure, graffiti on private property, etc. and provide a basic daily report of accomplishments and tasks completed. These reports are often used as a work order for city and district maintenance personnel.
· Stakeholder relations – Ambassadors will be responsible for making a specified number of visits to district businesses to share information and make professional contacts on behalf of the customer, essentially checking in on the businesses to proactively take care of their needs.
