Brief Maintenance Mechanic 3 Overview:
The Maintenance Mechanic 3 is responsible for general installation, repair, and maintenance of Medical Examiner and Crime Laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments as needed; performs other duties as needed to maintain a functioning facility; and serves as a liaison with the county’s Facilities and Property Management division of the Engineering Department and relevant private contractors who provide more specialized installation, repair, and maintenance of the Department’s facility and equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Monitors and performs periodic inspections, minor repairs, and maintenance projects on a broad spectrum of disciplines, including electrical, plumbing, HCAV, carpentry, roof, furniture, grounds, etc.
Works to triage facility issues in the morgue, scientific labs, evidence intake, and other specialized facility spaces and offices in order to expedite facility issues that may cause delays in evidence processing, based on a fundamental understanding of the processes utilized in the Medical Examiner and Crime Laboratory facilities.
Serves as a liaison with the county’s Facilities and Property Management (FPM) division to ensure specialized expertise is provided, either by FPM or outside contractors, for more serious or complicated repair / maintenance needs.
Assists with office furniture installation and moves, conference furniture relocation set up, and other facility-related cosmetic changes.
Supports the Facilities Manager and Safety Officer in ensuring the building’s safe operations and that it is in compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.

Advanced knowledge of mechanical / HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, fire suppression, carpentry, and painting
Ability to safely use and maintain hand tools and power equipment, and troubleshoot and repair minor problems
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner; desire to make customer service a priority
Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed
Sensitivity to nature of work being performed within the facility and adherence to confidentiality standards
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
