New Graduates
New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.
PACU recovery department at our main hospital location is comprised of 10 PACU bays. Our unit is a teaching unit that has multiple capstone students. Our nurses care for post-surgical patients for general surgeries, neurosurgery, orthopedic, pulmonary, ob/gyn, urology, ENT, cardiovascular, podiatry, dental and ophthalmology. We are care for all ages included from 8 months to adults to geriatric. Our nurses practice safe patient care while being self-reliant and understand hospital resources that can be utilized.
This unit requires weekday, weekend, and holiday call rotation. The on-call requirement is a 30-minute response window.
Nursing skills gained:
- Respiratory treatments
- Assisting anesthesia with peripheral nerve blocks
- Assisting with bedside procedures: central line placement, arterial line placement, bronchoscopy, intubation, and airway support
- Treating septic patients

- Routine monthly education opportunities (mock codes-Adult and pediatric, rapid sequence intubation, malignant hyperthermia)

Unit Culture Highlights:
- Nurses treating patients with compassion, care, and clinical excellence as you will provide critical care to freshly extubated patients.
- On this unit we focus on the progression of the respiratory system/airway while treating post operative pain, nausea, and hemodynamics.
- Positive environment, teamwork is imperative, strong collaboration with anesthesia and surgeons.

Qualifications
- Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
