Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Shelter Advocate to join our team. The Shelter Advocate will provide crucial support and assistance to individuals in need within our shelter facility.
Responsibilities: The part-time shelter advocate will be responsible for providing trauma-informed services to survivors of domestic violence and abuse including support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, information, and referrals. They are also responsible for maintaining the daily operation of the residential housing program and facilities. Flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Advocates for the mission of the organization and upholds the agency’s values.
· Commitment and sensitivity to issues related to the needs of families in crisis, particularly those affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
· Ensure clients are complying with program guidelines and procedures.
· Provide residential clients and their children with the support & assistance they need including emotional support, education on domestic violence and in adjusting to their new environment
· Provide services with safety, respect, and effectiveness.
· Assess client needs and help in every manner practical.
· Monitors client behavior. Follows all policies and procedures of the organization.
· Review policy & guidelines with clients at time of entrance.
· Prepare rooms for clients. Facilitates sleeping arrangements and storage of personal items
· Models and actively promotes positive, nurturing interactions between adults and children in shelter
· Maintains order and assists in keeping all assigned areas clean and free of spills, trash, and safety hazards.
· Checks daily activities and chores as assigned to clients.
· Perform room checks.
· Prepare intake packages.
· Receive and put away donations on your shift.
· Assist in room cleanings and house laundry.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the manager of shelter.
· Complete all agency logs and incident reports in a timely manner.
· Provide immediate and professional response to any security /safety emergency or disturbance within or immediately outside facility.
Provide childcare for children of shelter residents during support groups and case management/counseling when available

Qualifications
- Strong communication skills
- Experience in crisis intervention
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- First aid certification
- Data entry and collection experience
- Familiarity with security protocols
- Ability to handle conflict effectively
- Previous experience in social work or related field
Education and Experience:
· Some college in relevant field or equivalent education/work experience
· High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
· Experience in the Human Services or related field preferred.
· Able to work a flexible schedule. Reliable and Independent worker.
· Experience with victims of domestic violence preferred.
· Must provide a clear background check/BCI
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Bi-Lingual in Spanish preferred
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work well on a team. Must work well under pressure.
· Committed to working with the homeless and disconnected population.
· Must be flexible.
· Ability to multitask.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment.
· Requires verbal and numerical intelligence.
· Basic computer knowledge.
· Must possess a high degree of common sense.
· Must be empathetic and caring.
