The Mechanical Designer will perform various 3D designing, detailing and drafting functions in order to meet the 3D modeling and drawing efforts for all customer requirements. The Mechanical Designer / CAD Operator is required to utilize information provided by the engineers to prepare all necessary 3D model detail, assembly and arrangement drawings required to have the parts/equipment manufactured, assembled, erected and maintained.
Prepares necessary 3D Models detail, assembly and arrangement of drawings required to have parts/equipment manufactured, assembled, erected and maintained in accordance with department design and drafting standards.
Essential Duties:
- Take product from concept thru production level design, using available CAD software
- Create and update 2D Prints from 3D designs
- Define Critical Dimensions, Determine tolerances, and develop error proofing methods
- Design with plastic parts and assemblies for high volume ejection molding, over-molding and insert molding
- Understand and utilize best practices in mechanical design, dimensioning and tolerancing
- Present and explain designs to internal teams
- Work with global teams on design and production issues
- Handle mechanical design aspect of projects from kick off thru Concept Designs, Prototype, Validation, Testing, Trial Runs and Production
- Engage directly with tool manufacturers and injection molders in Design for Manufacturing activities.
- Participate with Project Team on Mechanical Design SWOT Analysis during Component and tool design phase
- Participate with Project team in DFMEA development and update
- Perform mechanical analysis studies on design and prove reliability
- Maintain traceability on all drawings versions and proper storage on internal system vault
- Maintain traceability on all drawings versions for submission to Customer’s storage system
- Follow established processes for design changes, customer approvals and production launches
- Support teams in inspecting mechanical related production issues and implement appropriate corrective actions into design
- Support project team in dimensional verifications, First Article Inspection Verifications, Measurements, and other special projects and initiatives from the Mechanical Department
- Follow company policies on confidentiality of project documents – proper marking, and saving final copies securely on servers
Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design or related field
- Minimum of 4 years of MD experience
- Familiarity with Automotive Customer Design and Storage Systems
- Experience with Solidworks CAD Software
- Experience with AutoCAD Software
- Knowledge of GD&T Principles
- Experience with plastic parts design
