Position Title: Compounding Pharmacist with experience
Department: Pharmacy
Reports to: Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist in Charge
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist in Charge, the Pharmacist will be responsible for providing oversight and safety of pharmacy services, including dispensing and supervision of pharmacy operations and personnel. The Pharmacist will be responsible for the implementation/compliance with Pharmacy policies and procedures. The Pharmacist will also comply with federal and state requirements for monitoring and reporting. They will monitor the performance of pharmacy staff to ensure all tasks and functions are conducted as required. Prior managerial experience is required.
Essential Functions:
1. Practices within scope of licensure and maintains active license
2. Ensures the quality and safe preparation of medications to assigned patients
3. Screens medication orders for accuracy, contraindications, and drug interactions
4. Provides oversight of the pharmacy processes related to medication preparation, dispensing and delivery dispensing
5. Provides direct oversight and supervision to the pharmacy technician in compounding preparation, dispensing, shipping and delivery.
6. Assists with the oversight and responsibility for Pharmacy Staff orientation/continued training
7. Ensures security of the pharmacy area
8. Maintains inventory levels within acceptable standards
9. Serves as a resource to all professional staff for questions or other information relating to the use of pharmaceuticals
10. Adhere to a delivery schedule for all prepared prescriptions
11. Provides and promotes education to patients, patient families and the community about pharmacy products and services
12. Informs Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist in Charge of patient comments and complaints
13. Responsible for the effective operation of the pharmacy
14. Responsible for ensuring that products and services which are delivered have complete and appropriate documentation regarding products delivered, client education and business paperwork
15. Responsible to communicate patient needs to physicians and case managers in a professional manner
16. Responsible to monitor client’s medical needs over the phone as required
17. Performs QA studies as needed (competency assessments)
18. Monitor staff performance according to objectives and Quality Management Program
19. Promotes effective written/verbal communications
20. Promotes and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory agencies regarding the operation of the pharmacy to include FDA mandates and manufacturer restrictions for specific drugs
21. Promotes education for company employees
22. Promotes the education of patients, patient families, and the community
23. Participates in personal professional growth and development
24. Completes the required CEUs mandated to maintain licensure and/or minimum of 8 hours of in-service and training per year
25. Other job relevant tasks as requested and necessary
Compounding:
1. The pharmacist is responsible for compounding preparations of acceptable strength, quality, and purity with appropriate packaging and labeling in accordance with good pharmacy practices, official standards, and relevant scientific data and information. Pharmacists engaging in compounding should continually expand their compounding knowledge by participating in seminars, studying appropriate literature, and consulting colleagues.
2. Read and become familiar with Chapter < 795> “Pharmacy Compounding: Nonsterile Preparations” and Chapter < 797> “Pharmacy Compounding: Sterile Preparations” of the United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary.
3. Read and become familiar with each of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to compounding, including those involving the facility, equipment, personnel, actual compounding, evaluation, packaging, storage, and dispensing.
4. Measures, weighs, counts, and compounds medications
5. Mixes pharmaceutical preparations according to formulation logs
6. Establishes and maintains accurate patient records by entering correct lot numbers and expiration dates of compounded medications
7. Maintains proper storage and safety conditions for drugs
8. Preparation and compounding of sterile products
9. Maintaining the pharmacy clean room suite to USP 797 and USP 800 requirements
10. Experience with following aseptic techniques in BSC and LAFW
11. Capable of successfully completing Hand Hygiene and Garbing qualification
12. Experience using a repeater pump
13. Inventory management and storage, complete appropriate documentation, such as labels, log sheets and reports
14. Clean equipment and sterilize glassware using dry heat ovens or autoclaves
15. Performs to established efficiency metrics while adhering to quality standards
16. Maintains compliance with Company and HIPAA patient confidentiality requirements
17. Complete critical point didactic timing course semi-annually
18. Working collaboratively with the other pharmacy technicians
19. Understanding pertinent SOPs
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy. A Pharm D preferred
2. Experience: Previous clinical pharmacy support for pharmacy, compounding- nonsterile and sterile.
3. Licenses/Certifications: Licensed pharmacist in the state of Florida
4. Special Skills:
a. Independence with regards to clinical discussions and evaluations
b. Ability to use pharmaceutical and medical references literature to provide drug information to health plans, patients and prescribers
c. 2nd language spoken preferred.
d. Management skills preferred
e. Good interpersonal skills required
5. Technical Skills:
a. Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system application.
b. Digital dexterity e.g. use of computer keyboard
6. Applicants must be able to pass a drug test and background investigation and depending on position requirements, a Department of Defense background investigation.
