This role is responsible for assisting with basic care of patients, patient flow, and scheduling appointments for patient procedures and office visits.

Schedules appointments and procedures for patients by telephone or at the check-out desk based on provider's schedules and availability.
- Uses computerized system to match physician/clinician availability with patient's preferences in terms of date and time.
- Maintains scheduling system so records are accurate and complete and can be used to analyze patient/staffing patterns.
- Ensures that updates (e.g., cancellations or additions) are input daily into master schedule.
- Communicates as needed with physicians/clinicians and other staff about any patient concerns/issues related to scheduling. Consults with practice manager about any system problems.
- Obtains verbal and written orders (including prescriptions) from providers with accurate documentation into the EHR providing clear communication to patient regarding plan of care.
- Ascertains that all procedure forms and consents are filled out accurately and signed (if appropriate) prior to scheduled procedures and tests
- Answers questions regarding paperwork involved for compliance with procedures and tests and reviews with patient all pre-procedure instructions providing written instruction when indicated.
- Accurately schedule, document and communicate all diagnostic testing (xrays, CT scans, MRI. Labwork, etc.)
- Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
- Performs patient check-in for appointments. Explains financial requirements to the patients or responsible parties and collects copays as required. Verifies patient information and insurance.
- Helps nurse to gather medical history information including obtaining information from various hospital and laboratory systems.
- Rooms patients in the office, takes weight and vital signs; obtains history from the patient and documents in the medical record

Accurately enters patient's medications and allergies on the medication list and keeps them current.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED. Completion of Medical Assistant Program.
- Minimum two years of experience as a medical assistant.

Basic medical assisting and scheduling medical appointments
Physical Demands:
Medium duty. 50 pounds, maximum lifting with frequent lift/carry up to 25 pounds. Requires standing for long periods while sitting for others. Repetitive hand/arm movements. Required to wear appropriate PPE. Assisting patients on and off procedure tables. This role involves direct patient contact.
