Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with specific experience with the child/adolescent population to join our team.
The Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist evaluates and treats patients presenting with psychiatric illness. Provides consultation to Medical Director, Program Director and other Staff. The Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist serves an integral role in the development and sustainment of the outpatient behavioral health clinic.
The Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist assists with diagnosis, treatment and medication management for patients. As a part of the Island Counseling Center’s Medical team, the CNS will also be actively engaged with other team members (case managers, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists). The Psychiatric CNS is a vital part of the Medical team and practices collaboratively in an effort to improve quality of life for patients and their families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide direct psychiatric services including psychotropic medications, comprehensive assessments and treatment planning to patients in an outpatient behavioral health clinic and Suboxone clinic (desired).
2. Prescribe psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of the therapeutic responses and side effects of medications to clients.
3. Provide on-going education to clients, family members and team members on psychiatric illnesses and medications
4. Provide consultation services, including evaluating non-psychiatric and physical health problems and making referrals, when appropriate.
5. Maintain collaborative relationships with community providers and health care professionals.
6. Provide timely record keeping and documentation of all prescriber services provided.
7. To be available for crisis consultation on emergencies and coverage/consultation for patients in the absence of available prescriber on site.
8. Support of nursing staff regarding medication questions
9. Assist with development and review of all medical and psychiatric policies, procedures and protocols.
10. Meet bi-monthly with Medical Director/Consulting Psychiatrist, in accordance with state regulations.
11. Provide indirect services, as necessary, in conjunction with direct, billable services provided in the Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic. This includes attending meetings/trainings as requested by the Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Board Certification by American Nurses Credentialing Center.
2. Massachusetts Board of Nursing License as, Registered Nurse and Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (PCNS).
3. Valid registration to issue prescriptions for Controlled Substances by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration.
4. Two years relevant experience post-Master’s Degree
5. Knowledge of therapeutic techniques used in individual, group and family psychotherapy.
6. Ability to recognize symptoms of mental and/or social emotional disorders in clients and to analyze social and psychosocial data to draw conclusions, develop treatment plans and make appropriate recommendations.
7. Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
8. Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians and other health care professionals and support staff.
9. Ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in addressing responsibilities of the position.

11. Maintains current malpractice/liability insurance at the 1,000,000/6,000,000 level.
12. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
13. Proficiency in use of electronic health records.
14. Willingness to become certified in prescribing Suboxone.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
