Gelato Boy is looking for a floor lead to help support our team in small batch gelato and inclusion production. The main focus of this position is gelato making and baking with extra leadership responsibilities.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a production position and in a manufacturing kitchen. This position will not interact with customers and is not located at a scoop shop (and not on Pearl Street). Please see map for location. Must be at least 18 years old. No evening or weekend shifts available at this time.
Gelato Boy is seeking to add a floor leader to help support our team. We are looking for those who have a passion for food and would love to share it making unique, imaginative gelato.
This role will primarily work in making and packaging gelato and our house made inclusions. We tend to work as a team at Gelato Boy and so your role in the gelato making process could vary from day to day. Ideal candidates will have some cooking or baking experience but we provide on the job, gelato-specific training! As a lead you will assistant the Production Manager in operations, efficiencies, paperwork, and problem solving. You will also act as the production manager when they are not on the floor.
Ideal candidates will be available 3-4 days a week, Monday- Thursday, 7:30am-5/6pm.
No night or weekend shifts available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist production management as directed in all designated activities, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Produce gelato according to the daily Production Schedule
- Follow the recipe and production protocol explicitly, carefully weigh and measure all ingredients as specified, to the gram
- Taste every ingredient in the batch for quality control
- Maintain a clean and organized space during production
- Follow our Good Manufacturing Practices while handling all products and equipment
- Complete and file daily production logs
- Coordinate with other team members to create a daily plan and timeline
- Always be on the lookout for ways to improve efficiency
- Follow all health code regulations and complete Daily Cleaning Checklist
- Guide other employees in tasks
- Be proactive in problem solving and production streamlining
- Support team members who need assistance or training
Position requirements:
- Can work in a freezer and in a very cold environment as well as a hot kitchen
- Current Food Handler’s / FoodSafe and Respect for Safety and Hygiene Standards (can be completed upon hire)
- Can physically, mentally and emotionally handle long periods of lean production techniques
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, multiple times a day
- Ability to stand on your feet while working
- All employees are expected to follow our General Manufacturing Practices (GMP's). Important GMP's include, but are not limited to: no jewelry or piercings (must be completely removed), the proper wearing of issued hair net / beard net and gloves, during food handling & production, no texting or checking cell phones during production.
