Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Data Management: Maintain records and data in payroll software for the creation of semi-monthly payroll and for historical purposes.
- Payroll Processing: Process payroll files for all employees, including payroll authorizations, tax deduction documentation, direct deposit information, and all authorized payroll allowances.
- Compliance and Reporting: Responsible for processing payroll direct deposit, federal and state tax submissions, reports, deductions, garnishments, and PTO leave records.
- Benefits Administration: Serve as the administrator for the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) retirement/life insurance policy, including monthly reports of all new, terminated, or salary-changed employees and monthly payments to VRS. Act as a confidential liaison between employees and VRS.
- Financial Processing: Responsible for coding and entering daily deposits in the electronic accounting system.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with various departments and employees to ensure seamless financial operations.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in business with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or comparable experience.
- At least 2 years of experience processing payroll for a public agency preferred.
- Proficiency in ADP payroll software is highly preferred.
- Exhibits a clear understanding of General Ledger accounting structure.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A team player with a positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record, required.
- Experience with the Virginia Retirement System is a plus.
- Bilingual (Preferred) but not required
