Summary
The Albany Academies provide a program of health services for all students in accordance with Commissioner's regulations along with the laws and regulations of other governing bodies, which address the provision of health services for children in New York State Schools. The School Nurse role provides health services to students and faculty also to promote health related habits. Promote health related habits.The School Nurse staffs the health office during regular school hours, which are 7:45-3:30.
Responsibilities:
- Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness
- Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
- Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
- Complete New York State required health screenings
- Update students’ medical history and maintain physical exam records
- Maintain medication orders and administer medications per physician order
- Work with the Athletics Department to assure that the NYSED requirements for athletics are met and maintained
- Communicate with parents via phone calls, emails, and parent meetings
- Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
- Ensure compliance with NYS and local health laws
- Collect, organize and maintain Student Health Records to include immunizations, physicals, accidents, office visits and report as required
· Maintain/update school health policies and procedures to reflect changes in school and health policies, laws and regulations
· Monitor student absences on a daily basis and maintain and report appropriate records
· Request, collect and administer all student medications
· Stock adult and junior EpiPens
· Communicate to all appropriate school personnel, health issues and needs of students to assure their safety and well-being during school hours
· Work with Food Services to address student dietary needs
· Maintain AED equipment and report to REMO as required
· Provide and maintain Universal Precaution Kits
· Contribute to the planning and execution of Emergency Response Team meetings and Student Wellness Committee meetings
Qualifications
- Registered nurse (required)
- AED certification
- CPR certification
- At least 3 years of nursing experience with preferably 1 year in a school setting
· Knowledge of basic computer software; excel, word and electronic medical records systems
- Successful background check

Assignment type: Full-time, 10-month (possibility for 12-month to include summer camp)

Compensation: $50,000-$55,000
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
· Generally, the role is conducted in a heated and cooled environment
· Routine interaction with ill students
· Requires wearing personal protective equipment when interacting with ill students
· The work is done sitting or standing and routinely requires movement inside the assigned building and occasionally outside from building to building
· Frequent interaction with others
· Ability to operate office equipment including computers, printers, copiers and the like
