SAFETY ASSISTANT / TOOL CLERK
Dean Baldwin Painting, a leading provider of aircraft painting services, is currently seeking a qualified Safety Assistant/Tool Clerk in our Peru, Indiana facility. This position reports to the Safety Manager and is responsible for supporting Dean Baldwin Painting safety related programs and processes, including tool control and accountability, as required for aviation safety. The role requires experience working in a safety related position as well as excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to provide timely information and services to employees and customers. The position also requires working knowledge of office processes and related computer software and electronic communications tools, and the ability to work across teams and with a variety of projects and resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor safety standards in accordance with all applicable Local, State and Federal regulations, including OSHA, DOT/FAA, EPA and company SOPs
- Coordinate safety related activities, including the tracking and reporting of safety performance to management.
- Provide and conduct safety related training
- Administration of tool control program which tracks safety equipment and basic tools issued to individual operators and ensures traceability on the floor.
- Primary responsibility for maintenance and operation of tool control room including, but not limited to, stocking, recovering, cleaning, repairing, and inspection of safety equipment and some production tooling and consumables.
- Issue, track and inspect safety equipment provided to employees and installed throughout the facility, ensures employees are properly fitted and trained on proper equipment usage.
- Inspect tools, machines and equipment for accident prevention, including required safety devices and procedures
- Assist with development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Observe workers and evaluate job activities to determine use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses, respirators, clothing, and other personal protective equipment as required.
- Identify and evaluate detrimental working conditions and makes adjustments to safeguard employee health
- Inspect specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first aid supplies
- Investigate causes of incidents to identify preventative safety measures for incorporation into the safety program
- Maintain programs and record keeping systems that track and evaluate personnel injuries
- Conduct audits, incident investigations, and site inspections of operational procedures, facility design, equipment, and materials
- Assist with testing and servicing safety equipment and systems
- Assist in the processes and procedures associated with Workers Compensation Claims
- Promotes a safety culture that supports and encourages employees to go beyond the call of duty to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and are comfortable intervening to correct inappropriate behaviors and concerns.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement; identify and respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers; participate as a team player in all phases of the organization; and is open and responsive to change
- Personally, provide customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service at all times
- Other responsibilities may include administrative work outside the scope of the Safety Department
- Adhere to the DBP safety standards, policies and expectations
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School diploma/GED
- 30 Hour OSHA Certification or equivalent required
- Knowledge of DOT/FAA regulatory requirements
- Two years minimum of related safety experience; or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong people skills and an ability and willingness to interact with all levels of management and staff
- Proven record of ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures, governmental regulations or other related documentation as needed
- Ability to work smart in a fast-paced/changing environment
- Ability to think proactively and plan and execute resourcefully
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- IT knowledge a plus
