The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and stations used in the cooking process for large groups attending private events and gatherings. This role requires someone with experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment, basic culinary skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and excellent teamwork abilities. The Prep Cook directly reports to the Catering Sous Chef.
Job responsibilities and duties:
- Set up and sanitize workstations.
- Follow prep lists created by chefs.
- Measure ingredients, seasonings, and prepare cooking ingredients like soup stock for the cooking process.
- Prepare simple dishes, including salads and desserts.
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic cooking techniques, such as grilling, sautéing, griddling, frying, baking, broiling, plating, and food decoration.
- Ensure all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
- Follow daily production sheets for prep, with any deviations requiring approval from the Chef on duty.
- Execute opening and closing duties.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and report concerns to the Chef on duty.
- Assist chefs in preparing food and handling various culinary tasks as needed.
- Follow proper food handling and preparation best practices to prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Responsible for executing assigned prep tasks and understanding ingredient preparation timing.
- Operate all kitchen equipment safely.
- Maintain the kitchen, workstations, kitchen equipment, and related areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and health regulations.
- Exhibit ART! (AREA15’s service standards) at all times.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or over.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Minimum of 1 year of culinary experience in a high-volume restaurant or catering kitchen.
- Manual dexterity to operate cooking tools such as knives.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines, demonstrating a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize under the pressure of deadlines, working independently and delivering against multiple priorities.
- Southern Nevada Health District Food Handlers Certified.
- Capable of standing and working on your feet for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Availability for varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in an environment subject to varying levels of noise, crowds, flashing lights, and smoke.
- Must have the ability to withstand high temperatures, heat, and sun exposure.
