This is an in-person Full-Time position.
Kindi Academy is looking for a literature/ language arts teacher for the upcoming school year for its High School. Applicants should have a passion for literature and a strong sense of language and writing. The school has its curriculum but will always work in collaboration with the teacher to modify the offerings as needed. The teacher should foster daily discussion around such thematic issues as historical context, conflict, symbolism, author’s writing style, literary elements, and figurative language. Teachers should also use classroom anthologies to supplement the novels with related short stories, poems, essays, and non-fiction articles. Experience teaching Honors/AP level coursework is a plus.
Writing: The teacher should set a rigorous writing curriculum that includes an expository essay (research paper), personal narrative or memoir, persuasive essay, short story, and poem. Students should work on writing outlines, thesis statements, literature responses, journal entries, free-writing, imitative author works, summaries, and journalism.
Editing: A teacher should possess advanced editing skills, offering feedback and detailed notes on their work. Students should also peer edit and understand the idea of a writer’s workshop, developing the ability to speak critically about writing and editing.
Grammar/ Vocab: In addition to the textbook grammar topics, students should learn how to critically look at language, analyzing groups of sentences, and applying grammar topics with the weekly sentence “break down” activities. We use the Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop books, which should be used for bookwork, spelling, and vocab tests.
Projects: Students should create novel related projects throughout the year, showcasing their creativity and understanding of the book.
Technology: Use of Google Classroom, Google Meet/Hangouts, and Online Apps that make learning engaging and exciting
The literature teacher should encourage a love of books, and teach beyond surface-level understanding.
Ability to lead a Debate Club, Mock Trial, or similar clubs is a plus.
The pay will be based on experience and qualifications.
