JOB SUMMARY
Builds patterns, jigs and fixtures used to create frames and assemblies. Uses a variety of hand and power tools to cut, fasten and finish materials. Ensures quality of work and performs general housekeeping and equipment upkeep. Learns customer products and requirements. Able to complete semi-complex assignments without supervision.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews work orders to review work tasks, select equipment and materials, and understand customer requirements and production schedule. Compiles/gathers supplies and tools needed.
- Follows work orders to build patterns, jigs and fixtures using a variety of materials (wood, laminates, plastics). Uses hand and power tools to cut, sand, drill, plane, nail and grind. Reviews work to ensure it meets internal and customer quality requirements. Loads to cart and makes available for next shop function.
- May participate on research and experimentation of new materials and casting processes.
- Inputs labor time to work orders using production log. Documents any deviations in materials used. Notifies lead when supplies are low or not non-conforming.
- Performs preventative maintenance and basic upkeep/repairs on department equipment.
- Disposes of scrap or waste materials. Performs general housekeeping to maintain clean and safe work area. May use forklift truck.
- Maintains knowledge of safety practices, quality goals, and customer preferences.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires the ability to read and understand technical work instructions and basic math calculations and measurements, including decimals and metrics. Basic working knowledge of shop tools. This is typically acquired through high school/vocation classes in reading, math and shop to include working with cutting tools. Technical/vocational courses to read blueprints helpful.
- Requires 1-2 years of professional carpentry/woodworking experience to include using a variety of tools and shop procedures.
- Requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Demonstrated ability to work with hand and power tools (saws, grinders, sanders, nail gun).
