UI Health is seeking a Medical Insurance Specialist to join our SCB Ophthalmology Clinic team. This role will work under general supervision, prepares billing forms for presentation to third party payers or the preparation of vouchers for the direct payment of bills. Assists with charge capture, reconciliation, claims processing and related business functions of the center.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for insurance processing and related billing functions:

Develops, implements, interprets, revises and enforces policies and procedures related to billing and business functions.

Assists with the establishment and monitors performance standards related to billing/business function quality and timeliness.

Completes insurance claim forms (simple to complex), identifies appropriate procedural and diagnostic coding (as needed) in consultation with providers.

Oversees the data entry (registration, charge capture, etc.) processes, including reconciliation/ correction, and related documentation.

Performs insurance verification and pre-authorization for services.

Consults with providers, patients and insurance companies/other third party payors related to claims denials or requests for additional information.

Responds to inquiries related to insurance, billing, and business functions.

Assists other staff members with billing/business operations questions.

Troubleshoots data entry and billing problems.

Prepares statistical, volume, and other activity reports related to billing and business operations.

Maintains center billing and business records.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Any one or combination totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:
A. College coursework in a health-related field, business administration/management, human resource management, or closely related fields, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
B. Work experience in a healthcare environment working independently with medical claims, denials, rejections, referrals, and prior authorizations.
