Hospice Nurse Position Summary:
Responsible for providing skilled nursing care to the terminally ill patients at Casey House. Responsibilities include assessing the needs of the patient and providing and documenting patient care in a caring and compassionate manner. To provide evidenced based nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting. Exhibits expert end-of-life care and provides supervision to Hospice Aides.
Hospice Nurse Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides nursing care for hospice patients admitted to Casey House.
- Implements nursing plans of care for assigned patients.
- Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency standards.
- Required to work one summer and one winter holiday.
Hospice Nurse Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
- Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred.
- One year of recent clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical, oncology or critical care environment. Previous hospice experience preferred.
- Excellent physical assessment, pain assessment and IV skills.
- Requires strong critical thinking skills and EMR experience.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively with patients and families under stress.
Per Diem Requirements:
- Required to attend 5-day general orientation.
- Immediately following general orientation, required to work 2-3 twelve-hour shifts per week during the day (7a-7p) until Initial Competencies are completed. This usually lasts 3-4 weeks.
- Required to complete 15 hours of continued education by the end of each calendar year.
- Required to work 1 shift per month.
- May be required to attend educational trainings and/or meetings outside of assigned shifts.
