Job Summary:
The Utility Designer will work effectively in a variety of computer systems and software applications. This position will effectively provide governmental, commercial, not for profit, and internal clients with the utility services and solutions needed to accurately understand designs, analyze and understand their geographic utility resources, and physical utility assets. Understand the contract and specifications of our client’s needs to develop the appropriate proactive solution(s). Conduct ongoing research and prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Responsibilities:
- Digitally perform audits of existing telecommunication and electrical distribution activities
- Select and interpret data, on a map based platform
- Analyze field photography and translate field measurements across softwares
- Accurately identify and record telecommunications and electrical equipment and structures
- Execute and plan daily goals while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.
- Apply engineering design standards to aerial and underground pole/line cable including Joint -Use Design, Make Ready, Pole Replacement, Primary Service, Reliability/Maintenance Design, Upgrades, Voltage Conversion, and Tie Lines.
- Collaborate with others (project managers, other engineers, clients, technicians, and administration) to learn how to devise the best infrastructure solutions.
Education and Qualifications:
- Two years of industry experience in Make Ready Engineering or Power Distribution Engineering is preferred
- Knowledge of drafting or modeling softwares including: AutoCAD/ARCGIS, Spida Calc, O-Calc, or Katapult
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Comfortable speaking with multiple levels of management.
- Expedite and facilitate project based work orders in a timely fashion.
- Proven ability to deal with governing authorities and their requirements, negotiate with private landowners, and provide communication, instruction, and guidance as needed to contractors.
- Understanding of telecommunication and/or electrical distributions systems is a plus
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics and plans is a plus
- Preferred Associates/Bachelors or a related technical discipline; A degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering is a plus, High school diploma or equivalent, required
