Bridgewater is hiring a Deputy Director of Public Works. The Deputy Director has hands-on management responsibilities for a team of approximately 20 members. Our maintenance responsibilities are diverse: streets, utilities, landscaping, building repairs and much more. The Deputy Director is charged with keeping our crews on-task regarding scheduled jobs while still handling the inevitable emergencies. We expect the Deputy Director to be in the field most of the time, with the Director handling most of the office duties. The Deputy Director is assisted by two Maintenance Supervisors—one for landscaping and the other for facilities.
In making this hire, we will be looking for someone with
- Management experience. (It’s not easy keeping folks motivated and happy while sometimes having to be stern.)
- Common sense. (This is a must. A big part of the job is keeping small problems small.)
- Knowledge of Maintenance Issues. (Nobody can know everything, but the more you know the better.)
We expect everyone we hire to abide by our six core principles, which boil down to this: (i) overcome obstacles, (ii) give citizens more than the law requires, (iii) don’t be afraid to try, (iv) understand what you’re doing, (v) look out for one another, and (vi) have fun!
The Deputy Director’s position is a P9 position, meaning that the salary range of $73,320 to $116,064. For someone coming in with management experience, common sense, and maintenance knowledge, we’ll likely be starting in the middle of that range.
