Seeking three animal caretaker assistants to help with my parrot flock (PT, late afternoons 4:30 to 6:30 pm)
The flock is a multi-species flock of 25 small to medium sized parrots (mostly mini-macaws, amazons, conures, and a couple of less familiar species).
The flock lives in an indoor aviary/bird room specially constructed for them, in a residential setting, with access to plenty of sunshine and fresh air. Most of the flock members have been with me for 20 years or more. They are kept as intelligent, energetic, and entertaining companions, not as rescues or for commercial or breeding purposes.
At this time, I have an immediate need for helpers with the following abilities and interests:
A. Help in the aviary room for 2 to 4 late afternoon sessions per week:
· Two teammates work together to clean the aviary room and cages daily to maintain a healthy and sanitary environment.The tasks include the removal and replacement of water bowls and food bowls for cleaning in a dishwasher; steam cleaning of cages, aviary room, and floors. More specific explanation of tasks provided upon request.
- Helpers typically assist 2 to 4 afternoons per week on regularly scheduled days each week. (Times: 4:30 to 6:30 PM Mon-Fri; 4PM to 6 PM Sat and Sun. and may vary from time to time) Initial fee is $25.00 per session (potential increases follow performance assessments) .
B. The preferred candidate will meet the following qualifications:·
- Be 20 or older adults, calm and reliable.
- ·Have one year or more of college or technical degree.
- ·Have relevant experience with routine daily cleaning of for animal living areas, including cages, with some required handling of flock members.
- Have relevant animal care experience (such as the Humane Society, shelters, kennels, veterinary experience, wildlife rescue, farms, horse facilities, etc.)
- Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule of 2 to 4 days per week. Times are 4:30 to 6:30 PM and sometimes may vary for convenience of helpers.
- Coverage over holiday and other breaks (spring and summer) also required.
- Live locally within 10 miles of East Athens/ Reliable transportation necessary.
- And -- up to date covid vaccination and boosters necessary for the humans!
- Non-smoking only

- List your actual experience, including any vet clinic, shelter, rescue, or volunteer experience, farm animal care, and general pet care for others in a business setting. Be specific as to length of time, species cared for, and whether any were avian.
- Give specific examples of how you have learned unfamiliar and unique tasks at a new volunteer or paid position.
. The only information requested is actual experience in performing tasks relevant and necessary for the health and well-being of the animal being taken care of. “Liking”animals alone is not a skill, qualification, or actual experience showing an ability to work with complex exotic animals
Examples of relevant experience are:
- Cleaning cages or other enclosures where animals are kept
- Administration of medications (Experience is not required but is helpful.)
- Experience with birds or exotics of any species. Please describe.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per day
Expected hours: 4 – 15 per week
