Overview:
Under general supervision, administers preventive and rehabilitative treatment to students and athletes involved in various sports and physical education activities in accordance with instruction from coaches, staff, or physicians. The duties of the Athletic Trainer include, but are not limited to, the prevention of athletic injuries; recognition, evaluation, and the immediate care of athletic injuries. The Athletic Trainer shall serve as a liaison of physical health support to and between athletes, coaches of the athletes, physicians, and parents. The Athletic Trainer shall enact and use reasonable efforts and professionalism to ensure that players participate in interscholastic activities and events only when physically able and that any instructions provided by their attending physician are understood and followed. Safety and health of the athlete comes first. The Athletic Trainers will coordinate with the Athletic Director to provide athletic training services at interscholastic events and practices deemed necessary by the Principal or their designee. They must work effectively with people representing diverse cultures, perspectives and needs, including all genders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of this job description include but are not limited to:
- Working with coaches, athletes, and medical professionals to evaluate the player's condition
- Speaking to coaches, family members, and athletes to set health and fitness goals
- Designing training and rehabilitation programs for athletes
- Using knowledge of sports-related injuries to diagnose and treat athletes
- Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's illness or injury in order to provide emergency or determine whether an athlete should be referred to physician(s) for definitive diagnosis and treatment
- Provide basic First Aid supplies to control bleeding, perform CPR, and provide basic splinting for fracture/dislocation immobilization to injured athletes, cheerleaders, dance members, color guard, and coaches as events happen
- Attends team practices and contests, as deemed necessary
- Referring athletes to another doctor or other medical staff members
- Assisting and monitoring injured players as they heal and progress towards recovery
- Maintaining records relating to athlete condition and training, diet, and treatment plans
- Handling clerical tasks, such as maintaining inventory, assisting with budgets, or restocking supplies
- Communicates effectively with all levels of staff & functions as a contributing team member
- Promotes positive public relations to physicians, patients, visitors, other employees, and the community
- Maintains competency and environment of care
- Participates in performance improvement activities
- Provides for patients’/significant others’ rights and safety; strives to manage situations in a manner to reduce risk while following legal and regulatory standards
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective and cost-conscious manner, complying with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATION and EDUCATIONAL AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- MS Degree in Athletic Training or similar field required · Any combination of experience, training and/or education to demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge and abilities listed in Sports Medicine or similar field
- Certified Athletic Trainer required
- First Aid is required/ Understanding of first-aid treatments, massage, and physical therapy techniques and equipment
- Strong understanding of the challenges athletes face, proper nutrition, sports injuries, and treatment options
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and attentive
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, decision making, and communication skills
- Possess a positive, cooperative attitude and ability to discuss issues with physicians and relay information
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel often requiring exceptional courtesy and tact
- Critical thinking and multitasking skills
- Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions independently
- Math & computer skills

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per hour
