Full Job Description:
Young & Healthy seeks to hire a Program Coordinator to join our Care Team in Pasadena, California as a health insurance enrollment specialist. The health insurance enrollment specialist is primarily responsible for assessing clients’ eligibility for Medi-Cal and Covered California subsidized health insurance plans, working with low and moderate income clients to complete and submit their applications, educate clients about how to maximize their health insurance benefits, and facilitate their connection to other Young & Healthy services for children and adults.
Founded in 1990, Young & Healthy is a small and dynamic nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that local children have access to the medical, dental, and behavioral health care that they need, regardless of income or immigration status. Our volunteer network of over 300 medical, dental and behavioral health providers will see our pediatric clients at no charge in the privacy of their own offices when the family cannot otherwise access the needed care. We also work upstream with local families to support their insurance enrollment and access to no-cost tax preparation. Working in close collaboration with the Pasadena Unified School District and local preschools and private schools, we provide classroom-based oral health education, mindfulness education, and Mobile Dental Clinics in collaboration with the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Together, these services support our mission to do what it takes to help local children and their families flourish.
Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish is required; meaningful history or connections with the Greater Pasadena area preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required; BA or BS degree from an accredited institution of higher learning strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of employment or volunteer activities with a nonprofit agency strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal and Covered California health insurance options desired.
- Designation as a Covered California Certified Enrollment Counselor and Medi-Cal Enrollment Specialist or willingness and aptitude to complete certification processes immediately upon hire required.
- A willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and some weekends is required.

About the position:
- This position is based in our office in Pasadena, California.
- The incumbent’s role is to provide in-person assistance to clients who are first-time health insurance enrollees, facing redetermination, or experiencing a life event that necessitates an assessment of eligibility and identification of health plan options
- Collaborate with clients to collect supporting documentation and submit Medi-Cal of Covered California health plan applications.
- Maintain accurate files for each client of services rendered and supporting documentation.
- Accurately record data and case notes in our web-based client tracking system.
- Follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction with services, address unresolved issues, and maintain relationships that support client retention.
- Participate in community outreach and pop-up enrollment events to extend opportunities for insurance enrollment.
- Educate clients about other Young & Healthy services, making internal and external referrals as needed.
- Participate in regular team and all-staff meetings, contributing to the strength and relevance of all Young & Healthy services.

- Non-exempt salary: $22/hour currently based on a 32-hour/week schedule to start with the potential for increase to 40 hours/week.
- All Young & Healthy employees currently work one day per week from home, subject to change at the discretion of senior leadership.
