Position Title: Senior ICT Assistant

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Regional Resources Management Officer and the direct supervision of the ICT Specialist and Helpdesk Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for overall assistance and daily technical support to users for information management tools and technology infrastructure of the IOM Washington DC and its sub offices. The incumbent must be competent in the technical aspect of desktop trouble shooting and user orientation.
Responsibilities for Internal Candidates
- Monitor that all helpdesk queries are answered appropriately via email, telephone call or in person.
- Support and coordinate the activities of the ICT Unit in Washington DC, ensuring that all requests are addressed timely and accurately, with an efficient allocation of resources.
- Install systems, network components and software (Windows 10, Windows 11/ Windows server 2016/2019, MS Office 2016/2019 and standard IOM software) and also configure Microsoft Office 365 services; suggest best technical solutions in order to achieve required standards while taking into consideration local technical constrains.
- Assist in the installation, operation, and administration of network components, which will include Cisco Routers, Meraki Firewalls and Switches among others.
- Monitor systems and networks (LAN, WAN) and perform essential maintenance such as server controls, data integrity tasks (back-up, disk space etc.)
- Install and configure the IOM’s corporate applications including SAP, RMI and Mimosa Web.
- Participate in problem solving, provide support and assistance for use of office technology (including but not limited to Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11, Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Acrobat).
- Install and re-locate the unit’s hardware and coordinate equipment servicing.
- Make sure all computer purchases are licensed with all standard software and coordinate with Procurement Unit for all IT equipment requested by all programs and schedule the delivery of the equipment to the Sub Offices.
- Update, monitor and maintain asset and software inventory.
- Monitor the regular daily data protection system (backup), put remote tapes, check the status of the backup and report to the specialist if there is any problem.
- Provide specialized ICT support and conduct planned/unplanned duty travels when necessary.
- Participate in the Internet Service Provider (ISP) selection process and participate in the sourcing of vendors, analyzing bids and selection of successful provider.
- Support and maintain the mission’s communication systems/equipment including, landlines, mobile lines, PABX, VOIP Services, Internet access, video conference services, all other communication related matters.
- Secure the implementation of standard IOM ICT policies and guidelines, with regards to network systems, IT security, software licensing, telecoms, and ICT procurement.
- Install, operate, and administer the security for the various system and network components, including protection against viruses, access to email and Internet, relational database management systems and implementation of ICT disaster recovery services by setting up security systems: anti-virus, backup routines, access controls, firewall and physical security.
- Carry out the regular updates of the antivirus database and the distribution of the updates to all the workstations.
- Develop and provide training to all ICT users to facilitate productive use of existing and new systems developed.
- Maintain regular updates to the technical documentation for the voice and data networks.
- Supervise ICT staff/interns as required.
- Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or higher, in computer science, electrical engineering with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
- Master’s degree or equivalent will be an advantage.
- Holder of CCNA, MCITP Microsoft Certified IT Professional (Windows/ Exchange Server) and/ or MCSA/MCDBA/ MCSE certifications an advantage.
- Experience with Networking (TCP/IP, routing, switching), network services (active directory, DHCP, DNS, WINS), operating systems at workstation (, Windows 10, Windows 11) and server level (Windows 2016/2019), messaging (Outlook 365, Exchange online, Intune,).
- Extensive knowledge of: Windows 2019 server software in a multi-site environment, TCP/IP and Office 365.
- Experience with HP/Compaq, IBM, Microsoft, Meraki, Cisco and Apple equipment.
- Experience in Web site development and administration is an extra advantage.
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
