Summary: The OSP Drop Plow Operator is responsible for Installing the service cable from the house to the pedestal or the road Right of Way. You may have to use mechanical boring equipment or hand tools to install cables. Individual must be able to follow oral and written instructions/specifications. Your interview may include a demonstration of your level of skill. Compensation is based on your level of skill. "Case", "Ditch Witch" and "Vermeer" drop plow equipment. Your expert knowledge in our wide-range of technology and services will provide customized solutions to meet needs and elevate the installation experience. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
· Installs service from the pedestal (fiber, coax, or copper) or the road Right of Way to the customer premise(outside).
· Possibility of using mechanical or manual equipment to include but not limited to boring / trenching & plowing.
· Individual must be able to follow oral and written instructions/specifications.
· We are looking for an experienced backhoe, cable/drop plow operators and foreman to place drops to customer homes or businesses.
· Act as a customer contact. Interface with customers and local supervisors to clarify project status.
· Understand various soil and ground conditions for plowing/trenching
· Daily maintenance checks (grease, lube etc.) on the machines
· Read communications prints for placing conduit or cables underground
· Understand the proper procedures for preparing load and unload signs, cones and barricades if necessary
· Capable of using a backhoe, rake and mini excavator to perform clean up and restoration when necessary
· Locates buried facilities near the route of "B" service wire using appropriate equipment.
· Operates a vehicle with trailer.
· Places buried service wires using a manually controlled gasoline/diesel powered tractor/trencher, plow, boring machine or manual tools.
· Coordinates work activity with customers, other utilities, and government agencies.
· Provides temporary repairs to low voltage buried utilities, sprinkler systems, and sewage field lines damaged while performing other duties.
· Provides periodic maintenance and non-complex repairs to equipment used in performance of other responsibilities.
· Lifts and moves objects weighing up to 120 pounds.
· Excavates using a shovel.
· Reads and interprets simple instructions.
· Drives Company vehicles.
· Follows established safety practices and procedures including the manufacture's specifications for operation or use of equipment
WHAT SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:
· High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
· Candidates must have experience working around underground utilities and installing conduit and/or cables on either conduit or direct bury projects
· Experience operating project equipment such as; backhoe, mini excavator, trencher, plow, tamper
· Trade school training desired.
· Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
· Possess a valid state driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
