Position Description:
This position ensures that contractors performing work on facilities projects comply with applicable building codes, regulations, contract specifications, and drawings through ongoing, regular inspections, usually in a specific area of assignment or expertise (i.e. architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, rail, etc.). Manages several projects simultaneously. In addition, must adhere to the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitors on-site construction activities and verifies the quality of materials, workmanship, and products being provided and installed per the approved construction contract documents.
- Prepare, submit, and maintain daily records of work activities, quantities used and conditions at the job site.
- Conduct inspections and site observations as required to document the quality of work being installed.
- Reports documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
- Redlines contract documents as minor changes are being made in the field.
- Assists with the development and implementation of project quality control plans. Recommends corrective/preventive actin and implements the necessary action plan to correct deficiencies.
- Works closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to understand the technical data and submittals associated with the assigned project. Assists the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer with the technical review of project submittals and RFIs.
- Provides quantity verifications for progress payments.
- Report any safety or project schedule deviations to the Project Safety Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- A minimum of 12 years of project experience. Must have served as Construction Inspector on at least 2 projects for the construction of water mains, sanitary sewers, tunnels, water or wastewater treatment plant modifications, or water or wastewater pumping stations with a combined construction value of not less than $20 million or 2 projects for the construction of sidewalks, streetscapes, intersection improvements or bridge and/or roadway improvements with responsibility for inspecting work for conformance with plans and specifications and maintaining daily inspector reports or comparable task for municipal building and site construction.
- Experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
