An employee in this class operates mowers, heavy equipment, repairs and maintains equipment, and performs varied manual labor tasks in the maintenance of the town park. The employee must be able to perform manual labor, as well as skilled and semi-skilled duties and abide by safety rules and regulations. Work requires being on-call to respond in emergencies. Work is performed under general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor and is reviewed through observation, quality and quantity of completed work and discussions.
Illustrative Examples of Work
· Operates heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, back hoes, front deck mowers, weed-eaters and blowers requiring skills to operate safely and accurately to ensure park grass areas are maintained and to keep parks and town owned grounds trimmed, banks and lake shore line clean and to remove debris, grass clippings and leaves in the fall.
· Operates chain saw and pole saws in removal of dead and dying trees.
· Performs pruning of shrubs, trees and grasses.
· Assists in maintaining the parks with keeping the parks clean, picking up trash and cleaning grills, pressure washing picnic tables, shelters and playground equipment
· Accommodates town residents, guests and parks and recreation board.
· Performs routine maintenance and repair on equipment; grease, change oil, filters, wheels and tires, sharpens mower blades; adjusts weed eaters, etc.
· Sprays fertilizers and pesticides.
· Performs related duties as required.
