Job Description:
The Material Flow Department's objective is to develop and implement plans to improve material flow, parts presentation, and delivery processes in alignment with the overall plant strategy.
Essential Functions:
- Role & Responsibility
- Continuous Improvement of Material Delivery Processes
- Define appropriate materials presentation strategy and replenishment methods.
- Assist in physical set-up of Material Flow layout areas.
- Monitor and communicate metrics relative to material handling issues and drive continuous improvement.
- Calculate material handling manpower needs for product lines to include new processes for material tracking and inventory accuracy.
- Plan for Every Part:
- Plans, designs, and implements material replenishment processes relative to production, including developing and driving execution of plan for every part, to achieve lean manufacturing and total lowest landed cost.
- Develops, executes, owns, and audits material replenishment methodology, strategy, and guidelines, i.e., sequence, kit, controlled delivery by build schedule.
- Collaborates with Manufacturing and Supply Management on replenishment parameters, i.e., order frequency and quantity. Responsible for replenishment strategies, conveyance of material and final presentation to point of use (POU)
- Establish and maintain the Production Control Plan for Every Part database, including standard packaging data and all material flow attributes.
- Establishes and creates triggers based on raw material or complete goods replenishment cycles and lead times.
- Establishes and monitors line side inventory levels and presentation.
- Plans material replenishment strategies to support variable build levels and inventory accuracy while minimizing material handling costs.
- Plans raw material and In Process storage strategies.
- Warehouse Optimization (Storage/Production):
- Establishes the material flow and movement strategy for the raw material, WIP and complete goods.
- Establish and document standardized work for all material handling team members.
- Ensures that there is optimized material movement that results in increased productivity and efficiency, reduction of inventory levels as well as higher inventory accuracy.
- Designs optimized layouts for material storage and processing for multiple warehouse sites and all manufacturing areas.
- Leads Continuous Improvement projects to improve efficiency of material handling processes and drive cost reductions.
- Evaluates current logistics flow through the facility for slow moving vs. fast moving materials.
- Performs root cause analysis; determines corrective action for appropriate material replenishment and flow throughout the factory.
- Other Duties:
- Experience with line and process design, material presentation.
- Establishes system parameters to drive material to its point of use.
- Communicates any changes to all effected parties.
- Manages all container and packaging requirements.
- Aide in resolving part quality issues related to packaging.
- Follows the standardized work process.
- Develop and improve tools and procedures to improve material handling tracking and goals around daily job/delivery requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of manufacturing and/or distribution processes, safety practices, quality, total preventative maintenance, and facilities layout.
- Experience with or willing to learn computer aided design (i.e. AutoCAD), and Epicor, or another\ERP (for transactions related to control cycles, material information, tracking, and movements).
- Experience with new product launches in a manufacturing environment
- Warehouse management software experience
- Experience using Excel, Word, Power Point, and Project.
- Ability to lead projects, capital request and planning through finish.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- HS diploma or GED required.
- Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience preferred.
- Individual contributor and/or senior service, production, or support roles highly experienced in area of responsibility whose function includes leading the specialized work of others in the job family on a regular and on-going basis."
- Serves as subject-matter expert in area of specialization and contributes to the body of knowledge within area of technical expertise.
