Supports the safety and successful operations at the Astoria Aquatic Center, by promoting water safety, enforcing rules, monitoring patrons, maintaining vigilance, providing first aid, and preventing and responding to emergencies.
This is a part-time position with variable hours depending on the Astoria Aquatic Center hours of operation and events. The summer hours for this position are June through September, Monday - Friday, 12:50 PM - 6:30 PM, and Saturdays 9:50 AM - 3:30 PM. The regular hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 3:50 AM - 3:30 PM and Saturdays 9:50 AM - 3:30 PM. Part-time positions with the City are limited to working no more than 129 hours per month.

Ensures the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Aquatic Center Supervisor and in coordination with the Aquatics Coordinator and Head Lifeguards.
- Maintains constant vigilance of the patrons in the facility through proactive scanning patterns.
- Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.

Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
- Enforces facility rules.
- Completes required in-service trainings as required by certifying agency and Parks and Recreation Department.

Respectfully takes direction from the supervisor.

Demonstrates understanding of and adheres to all safety regulations and practices.

Supports facility cleaning tasks including but not limited to; sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing floors, wiping down and sanitizing surfaces, taking out the garbage, picking up debris, cleaning restrooms, laundering hand towels and lost and found items, etc.

Displays excellent communication skills required in working with coworkers and the public, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.

Maintains predictable attendance by providing availability information in advance and adheres to published and set schedule provided by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABLITIES

Basic understanding of lifeguarding techniques and protocols.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

Possesses advanced knowledge of the facility's emergency action plan and understands the role their position facilitates in an emergency.
$15.50 - 17.25 per hour depending on experience
