Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced General Manager with a skillset geared toward business development and growth. As this position plays a crucial role in the expansion of the company Lutz is seeking a candidate with sharpened business skills, industry contacts, and a solid understanding of best practices in driving sales and improving profitability. Fostering growth is the name of the game. The General Manager will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic relationships, and overseeing the implementation of business strategies. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a proven track record in driving business growth and development. This role requires a blend of business acumen, relationship building, strategic planning, and team leadership. Applicants should feel confident with basic company financials and should have a general familiarity with business accounting. Additionally, this role will be expected to have a frequent presence in the field, while also maintaining a presence in-office to perform administrative and leadership duties.
Responsibilities:
- Identify new business opportunities and market trends, including growth areas, partnerships, products, and services.
- Identify and develop new ways of reaching existing markets.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic business development plan.
- Initiate and manage business partnerships and alliances, negotiate contracts, and close business deals.
- Coordinate with marketing, sales, and technical teams to align company goals and strategies.
- Prepare and present business proposals/estimates and pitches to potential clients
- Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders and business partners.
- Report on successes and areas needing improvement to senior executives.
- Manage Lutz’s business development budget and expenditures.
- Oversee the development of a business development team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Monitor and report on all sales activities, including new business development, account status, customer needs, potential customers, and issues with competition.
- Conduct on-site inspections to assess work quality and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Complete all paperwork required to close sales deals.
- Travel through assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders
- Ensure business development activities align with Lutz’s overall strategy and ethics.
- Provide effective leadership and guidance to all team members.
- Optimize resource allocation and workload distribution to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain proper safety requirements, including but not limited to ensuring proper PPE is available and actively used on job sites.
- Manage vendors, inventory and supplies.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Follow up with clients to ensure work is completed to a high standard
- Manage any outstanding work orders as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (3-5 years) leading and growing a small business.
- Proficient technical and mechanical aptitude to understand dock and door systems
- General construction knowledge.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage budget and financial growth expectations.
- Ability to read/understand blueprints, drawings and project specifications.
- MS Office proficiency
- Positive attitude and dedication to achieving high-quality results.
- Ability to anticipate roadblocks and problems beforehand and find an effective resolution.
Physical Demands:
- 8 or more hours of work a day in the office, warehouse, and on job sites.
- Lifting and/or moving objects up to 50lbs.
- Frequent stops to install/service/inspect job sites, including bending and lifting as needed.
- Potential for outdoor work (in inclement weather if necessary).
- Climbing ladders at job sites.
- Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
