The QC Analytical Chemist will be part of a lean, fast paced, Quality Control team that will go between both Salisbury and High Point, NC. This is a role in a chemical manufacturing environment.
This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can organize data on numerous lab activities, work independently, and is able to multi-task and problem solve, while maintaining a clear sense of priorities and focus. The QC Analytical Chemist will be expected to validate new analytical methods to ensure the appropriate analysis and prompt release of raw materials, in-process products and finished products. With minimal to no supervision, the QC Analytical Chemist will design and execute method transfer protocols of analytical methods oriented to the timely release of products by the QC department. This role provides technical support to other groups including QC, QA, and Operations as needed. The QC Analytical Chemist must maintain current knowledge of the latest technological and scientific trends and serves as an analytical sciences resource for the rest of the Quality group. An ideal candidate will have a unique blend of hands-on analytical experience, skills in chemistry with the ability to provide technical expertise in written and oral presentations, and must be capable of communicating and relating to associates at all levels of the company. Advanced computer skills are required. This position reports to the Quality Control Manager for Innospec Performance Chemicals.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensure all instrumentation is maintained and running properly
o Performing yearly calibrations and PM on all instrumentation
o Purchase and inventory of all necessary parts to keep instruments running
o Oversee Purchasing, Installation and IQ/OQ/PQ of new instrumentation
o Provide off hour support of Analytical instruments
Write and maintain analytical methods used in the QC Lab
o Train QC Chemists on GLP
o Understand and validate analytical methods
o Liaise with R&D on analytical methods and transfer the methods to QC
o Transfer methods from other production plants, verify that methods are complete and valid
Troubleshoot issues with products that may be caused by methods and/or analytical instrumentation.
Recording and reporting data within the quality system- completing documents and spreadsheets accurately and in full
Performing analytical investigations and tests to meet research and customer needs.
Taking part in audits for ISO-9001, GMP and customers as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidate should have a solid working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation such as FTIR, HPLC, GC, GC-MS and test methods. Candidate must have a demonstrated proficiency in laboratory instrument troubleshooting and knowledge of statistical techniques. Candidates with experience in a manufacturing environment will be preferred.
· Minimum of a BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Biochemistry. Degrees in other scientific disciplines will be considered with an advanced degree in a relevant field a plus.
· A minimum of 5 years of experience in an Analytical Chemist or equivalent role.
· Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques, such as data trend analysis and design of experiments. Proficiency in review and interpretation of laboratory data.
· Detailed knowledge of principles of routine laboratory operations.
· Working knowledge of chemical industry regulations, such as EffCI GMP and ISO 17025. Experience implementing and maintaining adherence to GMP, GLP and GDP.
· Domestic travel will be required, with up to 20% of time on travel.
· Very effective communicator, both written and oral, and excellent team player.
· Position will be located in Salisbury, NC with frequent travel to High Point, NC.
