Research Nurse
Job Summary
- The research nurse shall perform research nursing services in accordance with the ethical, professional and technical standards of the health care industry, within the established scope of practice and according to the standards set forth in this statement of work.
General Accountabilities
- Coordinate and expedite the flow and work materials within the studies assigned. Duties include reviewing and distributing work; conferring with other research nurses, research assistants, nursing supervisor, research regulatory personnel and program managers to determine progress of work and completion dates.
- Provide professional assistance to investigators in the combat casualty care research program in the preparation, conduct and documentation of human subjects’ research.
- Work with the Institutional Review Board of record to coordinate the execution of research.
- Work within the burn center and emergency department, operating room and outpatient care environment to consent subjects, perform research procedures, and collect approved research data.
- Work directly with patients for research nursing interventions (e.g., administration of medications, blood draws, dressing changes, etc.) that are stated within the protocols, including obtaining informed consent for participation in studies in accordance with the American Nurses Association Nursing Scope of Practice, Texas Board of Nursing Standards, Code of Federal Regulations and Good Clinical Practice Regulations.
- Process and ship specimens; record clinical data to include use of computerized data acquisition systems.
- Review data from a variety of sources to ensure accuracy, develop and use record keeping systems to ensure data integrity, and participate in the analysis of reports.
- Report progress of research and participate in the ongoing review of research to ensure regulatory compliance, patient safety, and scientific quality and progress.
- Conduct human research under the USAISR Assurance and Human Research Protection Program, adhering to all of its requirements.
- Hours of performance shall not exceed 40 hours/week. Limited on-call may be required for this position.
- Comply with training requirements required in the military healthcare environment.
- Scheduling will be coordinated with direct nursing supervisor.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (MSN, BSN, or Diploma).
Possess a license (valid and current with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice nursing as a RN in Texas.
All licenses must be unencumbered and remain in effect during contract employment.
Minimum Experience: Medical/surgical nursing experience
Preferred Experience: 2 years of Research Coordinator work
Credentialing and Other Requirements
- Employee shall report to the workplace with a Favorable NAC.
- Upon hiring employee must complete required training (e.g., HIPAA , CITI and CBRNE)
- Prior to reporting to the work site, employee shall report to the appropriate USAISR Security Office for issuance of a Government badge and security briefing.
- Maintain current certification in Basic Life Support.
- Be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Possess a license (valid and current with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice nursing as a RN in Texas. All licenses must be unencumbered and remain in effect during contract employment.
